Out & About Autumn 2019

Out&About lifestyle

Generation X Those who were born in the 1960s and 70s and grew up in the 1980s have a fondness for film-related memorabilia such as Star Wars and James Bond means prices remain strong. Dolls such as Sindy have seen a resurgence. In addition, Trendon Sasha Dolls sell well at auction and can make £500 upwards. Kenner Blythe Dolls are still being made today, therefore they appeal to collectors of modern and antique dolls alike. Some early computer games such as Atari, Commodore and Omega are gaining traction at auction.

Baby Boomers Our annual Trains Galore sale remains one of the most popular auctions in our calendar and among UK train collectors, with thousands of trains and railwayana going under the hammer over two days. In addition to the older trains that have been the core of our sales for many years, the market is now moving towards the more modern types that have been made over the last 10 to 15 years. An example is ACE Trains, which started making 0 Gauge toy locomotives and rolling stock in the style of Hornby, but has now developed into a booming market of its own, with a range of superb models that combine the convenience of modern running with lots of character. Some can sell for £800 or more. In a similar way, the most modern digital 00 Gauge locomotives are popular as they can be run straight from the box, with the digital system meaning that dozens can be run at once. Barbie, which has been made since 1959, continues to be popular and are sold boxed or in mixed group lots. As the most popular doll in existence, condition and original packaging are crucial to the value. Early Japanese-made figures and outfits can fetch large sums. The Dinky Toy vehicle market is still strong, with some pre-war models making more than £3,000 each and models from the 1950s and 1960s continuing to be popular in good and boxed condition. Corgi and Matchbox continue to be equally popular.
