C OURSE D ESCRIPTION

The Arts course in Year 7 is divided into two semesters with students studying Visual Arts in one semester and Music in the other semester.

In Arts – (Visual Art), Year 7 students will study a photographer of their choice to undertake an inquiry into how photography can be used to portray meaning. They will look into approaches to composition that have been adopted by recognized photographers. Students will apply this knowledge when taking their own photographs using mobile phones or other digital devices. These original photographs will then be manipulated and enhanced using Photoshop or other photographic editing software. Ultimately the students will be required to create an arrangement of three photographs all aimed at conveying a common message or idea that can be summed up by a single abstract noun. Students will develop visual literacy skills through interpreting the work of other photographers and justifying the meaning conveyed in their own work.
