STATEMENT OF LEGAL RESIDENCE (SLR) If listed on your checklist on the my.ucmerced.edu student portal, you are required to submit your SLR to ensure that fees are calculated and applied at the California resident tuition rate. The information you submit will be used to determine whether you and your parents meet the requirements for California resident tuition as of the first day of instruction of the term. Failure to submit your SLR or any other requested documents will affect your financial aid package, and nonresident fees will be assessed to your student account.

New Student Orientation is a two-part experience and is a requirement for all new students. Orientation will provide valuable information and activities to help jumpstart your transition to UC Merced.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO LIVE ON CAMPUS? The cost of living in the residence halls varies with the number of residents per room. Most students live in double- and triple-occupancy rooms, although a limited number of quadruple- and single-occupancy rooms are available. The rates for on- and off-campus housing are available at housing.ucmerced.edu .

REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION BY JUNE 14TH AT ORIENTATION.UCMERCED.EDU .

To apply for housing, fill out the housing preference form/application at housing.ucmerced.edu/apply by the deadline. UC Merced requires ALL incoming first year students to live on campus for two academic years, unless they qualify for a residency exemption waiver. For a complete list of residency exemptions, visit housing.ucmerced.edu/housing-requirement .

Reservations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage you to register your parents, guardians and supporters, as we have a special program designed especially for them. The cost to attend New Student Orientation is $110 per student and $100 per parent or guest. For your Orientation day, gather copies of your transcripts, sport those sunglasses, put on some sunscreen, and get ready to continue your journey to becoming a Bobcat!

No. Although the contract commitment is for a full academic year, you are billed by the semester. You have the option to pay the semester in full (about half the total contract amount), or you can apply for the Deferred Payment Plan (DPP) in MyBill in the my.ucmerced.edu student portal. DEFERRED PAYMENT PLAN:

Undergraduate fees will be assessed to your student account in MyBill. You will be responsible for paying the fees by the fee payment deadline. To access your student account, select MyBill after logging in to the my.ucmerced.edu student portal. HOW TO PAY? Log in to the my.ucmerced.edu student portal and select MyBill to view the amount you owe. Balances not paid by the payment deadline are subject to a $50 late fee and a hold on your student account.

The Deferred Payment Plan (DPP) offers the option to pay registration fees and on-campus housing costs (if applicable) in four monthly installments per semester. To qualify for the DPP, you must owe more than $500 after any authorized financial aid. You must request to enroll in the DPP every semester. The first installment plus the nonrefundable $40 participation fee must be paid at the time you enroll. To enroll, log in to the my.ucmerced.edu student portal, select MyBill, then select Deferred Payment Plan. ELECTRONIC REFUNDS (EFT): You should sign up for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) if you are expecting a refund. With EFT, you have the convenience of your refund going directly to your bank account. Those funds will be accessible in 1 to 3 business days. Students who have not enrolled in EFT must pick up a paper check at Campus Cashiering Services. You can sign up for EFT using the Electronic Student Refund link in the my.ucmerced.edu student portal.

These requirements will appear on your checklist on the my.ucmerced.edu student portal. After you submit the documents, monitor your UC Merced email for status updates or additional information.

To comply with the University of California immunization requirement, all incoming students are required to complete a TB Risk Screening Questionnaire and Immunizations Form to prove vaccination and/or immunity to measles/mumps/ rubella (MMR), varicella (chickenpox), meningitis (under age 22 only) and tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap). You can find these items in the MyHealth portal at myhealth.ucmerced.edu . We strongly recommend that you meet TB and immunization requirements before you arrive on campus. Failure to submit proof of immunizations and TB compliance will result in a registration hold for the following semester .

All registered UC Merced students are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) in order to meet the University of California mandate that all UC students have health insurance coverage as a nonacademic condition of enrollment. However, if you have coverage through a major medical insurance plan that meets the University’s minimum criteria for health care and do not wish to be enrolled in UC SHIP, you can waive enrollment by submitting an online waiver application. Waiver applications can be submitted on the my.ucmerced.edu student portal during the fall or spring waiver periods. A new waiver application must be completed each academic year in the fall. Complete the Waiver Criteria Worksheet at health.ucmerced.edu/ waiver to help you gather the information you will need prior to completing the application.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN YOUR ROOM:

ON-CAMPUS RESIDENTS You will receive an email with your assigned move-in time. While we ask that you arrive during your assigned time, you will be allowed to check in on either day during the times advertised. Students not able to check in during their assigned move-in time can check in at the Terrace Center Housing and Resident Life Office starting at 5 p.m. each day and during office hours (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.) the following week. After you have checked in, received your room keys and checked in with your Resident Assistant (RA), you will be free to unpack and explore campus. Each community will have a mandatory floor meeting hosted by their RA. These meetings will provide important health and safety information, campus resources and a review of community standards, as well as allow you to get to know the fellow students in your community. Please note: If you are a moving in to a Living Learning Community (LLC), be sure to read the email you received about the LLC orientation and activities after move-in.

Students living in the Heritage Apartments will check in between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at a station near the leasing office of the complex. There are no assigned move-in times, but residents will not be able to check in after the leasing office closes at 5 p.m.

It is important to check your UC Merced email, because that is where we send important information. Visit the my.ucmerced.edu student portal and click on WebMail at the top of the page after you log in. You can opt to forward University email communications to a different account. In those instances, it is your responsibility to ensure that all information sent to your official University-assigned email account, including attachments, is properly forwarded to that other email account. If you take the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE), offered on May 11, 2019, at regional testing centers, the AWPE checklist item will show as “Passed” or “Not Passed” when we receive your score. If you pass the examination, the ELWR will be marked “Satisfied.” If your ELWR is “Unsatisfied,” you can visit the General Education section of the UC Merced General Catalog at catalog.ucmerced.edu/ content.php?catoid=11&navoid=1053#ucregs for options to satisfy the requirement. For more information about placement and associated requirements, visit ucop.edu/elwr . Reserve your textbooks online: Visit bookstore.ucmerced.edu , find “Course Books” and click on “Textbooks.” Here, you will find instructions on how to reserve your textbooks. Log in to the my.ucmerced.edu student portal and select MyRegistration, then select “View Books” to load all your courses on the Campus Store website so you can begin reserving your books. Rent your textbooks: The Campus Store offers a textbook rental program at a fraction of the purchase price. Call 209-228-2665 for more information. Purchase electronics at educational discounts: The Campus Store is an authorized Apple reseller and sells laptops, iPads and Apple accessories. You also can buy discounted technology from Dell and Microsoft, and trade in your devices for credit at the store. TEXTBOOKS AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT UC Merced students have many options for getting their textbooks.

On-campus parking: Incoming first year students who live on campus are not eligible to park on campus unless special conditions apply. Transfer students living at the Heritage Apartments may be eligible for a Heritage Carpool permit. For more information, visit taps.ucmerced.edu/permits/students/heritage- apartment-residents . CatTracks: The campus shuttle service, CatTracks, provides transportation to local businesses and many student housing communities. Visit cattracks.ucmerced.edu for schedules and route information. Alternative transportation: Students can also sign up for the Zipcar program, which provides hourly rental vehicles right from campus, and the carpooling service Zimride.
