Big Red is a 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 from La Crete, Alberta. It is owned by David Giesbrecht or @uncle_dofe, as he is known on Instagram. That’s where you’ll see about a hundred great shots of Big Red. David’s great sense of humour is also on display. In one photo, he’s on a date with his truck, complete with flowers on the table and a jerry can for the truck to drink. In another, he has added the caption: “Always remember, your truck will never wake up and tell you it doesn’t love you anymore.”

As a teen, David saw “people I knew with sweet rides and I wanted one as well.” Unlike some of the other Dream Rides, David did not buy his truck stock, although he wishes he had. The first thing he did was to change the rims and tires as he didn’t like the ones it had. His advice to others is to begin with a lift, wheels and tires. He added his mods piece by piece over time and says his Sierra felt like his Dream Ride right from the beginning.

Although David and Big Red don’t belong to any recognized truck groups because La Crete is pretty remote, they sure can find their own fun: “I usually have a grand time if I can find mud or a big pool of water.” His favourite memory from his Dream Ride adventures is: “not just one, but all of the road trips taken.” Living in La Crete means driving a lot. For example, Big Red logged 3000 kms in one trip. Naturally, they’ve experienced extreme

weather: ”The most extreme conditions must be a huge blizzard. We do live in Alberta, after all, so you never know what might hit ya.” This likely explains why his next road trip will be towards a milder climate: “I would like for my next destination to be Vancouver.”
