NATURE: WALRUS: LIFE ON THIN ICE With three-foot long tusks and a droopy mustache, the walrus is one of the Arctic’s most enigmatic animals. Kirk Johnson, a paleontologist and Sant director of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, embarks on an Arctic adventure to uncover the hidden lives of these lumbering giants and follows the fate of one young orphan, who is rescued and rehabilitated at the Alaska Sealife Center. DWIGHT IN DENMARK Dwight Lamb is an important American old-time fiddler who learned Danish tunes as a child from his immigrant grandfather. Discovered by Danish champion folk musicians, he is now influential in Denmark. This documentary tells his story and follows a tour that he and the Danish musicians made. Their work together led to the rediscovery of many traditional tunes that had become extinct in Denmark. Dwight in Denmark airs October 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Nature: Walrus: Life on Thin Ice airs October 22 at 7 p.m.

AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: KISSINGER This two-part special explores the life of the brilliant powerbroker who rose to the topmost echelons of American diplomacy. Revered or reviled, Henry Kissinger’s contradictions reflect those at the heart of America’s foreign policy in the second half of the 20th century.

American Experience: Kissinger airs October 27 and 28 at 8 p.m.
