SPOTLIGHT ON PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT

mentoring program has also been a humbling experience when I reflect on how much I have developed as a practising clinical health professional, and that I may be part of another clinician’s professional journey. I have also learned that the challenges I felt as a new graduate and junior speech pathologist (i.e. caseload demands, workplace performance expectations etc.) are still the same with present day new graduates and junior speech pathologists despite the great resources and professional supports provided by Speech Pathology Australia. This reflection makes me question if we need to review how we are articulating our support for all our speech pathology peers and colleagues, and in what way could we be doing this better. As senior speech pathologists and mentors, I believe we have a duty of care to our junior clinicians to support them in becoming stronger and more confident health practitioners, and in this way we may also strengthen and further develop our industry.
