St. Gt'Orge's School 10ntariol

St. Georre's School was est::ib- lished in 1918 by the Reverend James Martin. The /!nrollment has ~rown from 66 pupils. in 1918, to 96 pupils in 1937. The school is taught by the Sisters of St Jo- seph of Orange, under the direc- twn of the pastor Reverend Al- Sacred Heart School (Redlands) In 1896 the first unit of the I Sacred Heart School was built by Father Thomas J. Fitzgerald, and opened by a group of Ursu- line Sisters from Pittsburgh, Penn- sylvania. In 1905 the Sisters were recalled to Pittsburgh. During the scholastic years, 1907 and 1908, the Immaculate Heart Sisters from San Bernardino took over the work. Since they had to trav- el from San Bemardino daily, the arrangement was not a convenient one. Finally, in 1907, Father Fitzgerald secured Sisters of Mer- cy from Los Angeles. The present enrollment of the school ranges from 100 pupils to 135 pupils. The present pastor is the Reverend Edward Hannon. Our Lady of Mercy School I Our Lady of Mercy was opened ' in the fall of 1916 in the Mexican (Redlands) bert F . Dotanville. 1

I Grammar Schools of the Diocese St. Joseph's Cathedral School (San Diego) At thP rrquest of the late Mon- signor Brady, three Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondolet opened st. Joseph's school in August, 1920 with an enrollment of 15 pupils ., and at the end of the first schol- astic year the enrollment had reached 185 pupils. The present enrol1ment of the Grammar school is 217. The Right Reverend John M. Hegarty, V. G . desiring to further the cause of Christian education rnd to give every Catholic girl in San Diego and surrounding dis- tricts an opportunity for receiving additional Catholic instructions to that received in the elementary grades. gave permission for the opening of a ninth grade. At the commencement of the Fall se- mester in September, 1!937, a clas.s of 20 girls was registered. Our Lady of Angels (San Diego) The Right Reverend Eugene Heffernan a former pastor of Our 1· Lady of Angels Parish was instru- mental in the e1·ection of the first school, built in 1912. The Sisters of Joseph of Catondolet were se- lected to direct a new school, and since that time have directed the education of the Catholic children living in Golden Hill. The -school is now under the supervision of the zealous pastor, the Very Rev- erend Vincent J. Sheperd, who was assigned to the pa.iish December, 1929. The present enrollment of the school is 290 pupils. Our Lady of the Sacred Ileart (San Diego) Our Lady of the Sacred 'Heart was established in 1927 by the Reverend Joseph Lynn with an enrollment of 160 pupils. The Sis- ters of St. Joseph of Orange were chosen to teach. Now, at present there are nine Sisters with an en- rollme:1 t of 418 pupils. Th€ pres- ent paste:- :.5 the Reverend Owen Hannon. St. Jo;1..·•~ (San Diego) St. John's school was establish- ed in 1919 by the Reverend Thom- as King, with an enrollment of 35. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Ca- rondolet have charge of this I school. Its present enrollment is 195 pupils. The Reverend John B. C'.'lt•.o,; is the pastor.

Sacred Heart

This school was established by the Reverend Francis Burelbach in 1916. The Sisters of St. Jo- seph of Orange were chosen to teach in the school. The present enrollment of the school is 70 pu- pils.
