MAINTAINING YOUR TENNIS GAME DURING THE OFF-SEASON by Jake Ledger, Junior Tennis Coordinator

The end of the US Open brings us to a lull in the professional tennis world. Here in Aspen, we share a similar “off-season”, but that doesn’t mean the on-court fun has to end! Here are four ways to keep your tennis game strong this off-season: PICK ONE STROKE TO IMPROVE: Get out on the ball machine or with a Pro and focus your attention on one specific part of your game. Aim to bring consistency to your weakest stroke or take your best shot to the next level. EXPERIMENT WITH NEW EQUIPMENT: You may still love your T2000 or Prince Graphite, but the off-season is a great time to make a change in your racquet or strings. Demo the newest racquets from Babolat and Wilson or simply adjust the tension in your current racquet. Ask a Pro to help you choose the right setup for your game. KEEP PLAYING MATCHES: Not playing matches is like only playing golf on the driving range. Make sure you are still getting the singles or doubles matches you need to keep your game at a high level. If you can’t find a game, ask a Pro to recommend a league day that fits your skill level. GET IN THE GYM: Do not neglect the strength and flexibility necessary to play your best. Extra emphasis should be placed on the core and legs. Proper stretching and workouts can help with injury prevention, which will keep you in the game for seasons to come. Ask a fitness instructor for tennis specific exercises.

Block Therapy is coming to Maroon Creek Club

You may be asking yourself what is Block Therapy? The main objective of Block Therapy is to release Fascia. Now you may be asking yourself; what is Fascia? Fascia is the tissue which connects all of our cells. It is a head to toe, inside and out, all encompassing system of fibrous connective tissue found in the body. Your fascia provides a framework that helps support and protects muscle groups, organs, and the entire body. Some fitness professionals refer to it as being the

glue that holds our bodies together. In Block Therapy students lie over a therapeutic tool called the “Block Buddy”. Putting your body weight into the block and holding it there releases the fascia which creates more space in the body which helps to heal and prevent injuries. In Block Therapy there is also a lot of emphasis put on breathing deeply. Breathing deeply brings additional oxygen to the body which is also an important part of healing. Sandy Baker will be instructing the class which will begin in November. STAY TUNED for more information to follow!
