The First week of School – what can you do to help? The first week of school is daunting for many as there are so many new students who are joining a big school full of people they don’t know. They will be facing new work they might not understand. Especially for the younger new students, high school is scary and can be quite lonely when they don’t yet have friends. During this time, it is so important that you try to meet and chat with as many of the young students as possible so that they have a friendly face around the school. They should feel that if they are stuck with a problem, they can come to you because you will take care of it. Leadership in PC PC should be a time of bonding with different grades and a time for sharing of stories and advice. We have moved away from phone use to emphasise the importance of connecting with one another and spend- ing time with all the different year levels. Organising fun activities and bringing an upbeat and playful vibe to your PC group is important to maintaining enthusiasm towards this time of the day. You should know every member of your group and try to include them in all activities. Even just taking a bit of time to talk to them and know what is going on in their life or going out and kicking the footy with them or playing a game as a PC can make them feel comfortable and included. Encourage other seniors to also fill this role within their own PC! House Meetings Your Head of House will be giving lots of information to the House in these meetings and it is vital that you know all the details to remind any forgetful students of dates or times. It is also important that you set an example during these meetings as many of the younger in particular, tend to mirror your attitude and enthusiasm. Be prepared to speak to the group about any upcoming events and the usual purpose of this is simply to motivate them to try their best.
