3.10.B – Taking a heart rate

Objectives: Demonstrate how to take a heart rate on a conscious patient

Equipment: Watch with seconds hand (students)

Clock with seconds hand (room)

Instructions: - Group your students into pairs. One group may have three people in odd-numbered student groups. - Demonstrate how to take a heart rate. Have students follow along on their skills sheet. Limit this demonstration to no longer than 3 minutes. - Have students take heart rates on each other. They should document the values obtained on their skills sheet.
