2.05.C Bag-Valve-Mask Apneic Patient

Cohort Bag with Airway Adjuncts

Precautions: Have the student assess and treat the apneic patient as per the skill sheet’s requirements. Do not engage the student in conversation or questioning – this is supposed to evaluate skills performance not cognitive knowledge.

Objectives: THE INSTRUCTOR MUST BE ABLE TO INTUBATE A MANIKIN TO RUN THIS STATION 1.

Demonstrate the steps in performing the head tilt–chin lift maneuver. (p 337)

2. Demonstrate how to assist a patient with ventilations using the bag-mask device for one and two rescuers. (p 354)

Setup: Please the manikin on a surface and lay out the devices. Between students try to rearrange the airways and dry the nasal airway so it is not obvious to the student which one the previous student utilized.

Instructions to be read to students: “This patient is supine and appears unconscious. Please assess and treat this patient.”
