2.05.D Oxygen Administration

Equipment for this station •

Quality BLS Manikin with ears (Little Anne, Resusci-Anne) • Cohort Bag with Oxygen system and administration devices

Precautions: Have the student provide supplemental oxygen as per the skill sheet’s requirements. Do not engage the student in conversation or questioning – this is supposed to evaluate skills performance not cognitive knowledge.

Objectives: MUST BE ABLE TO INTUBATE A MANIKIN TO RUN THIS STATION 3.

Demonstrate how to place an oxygen cylinder into service. (pp 349–350, Skill Drill 9-7) 4. Demonstrate the use of a partial rebreathing mask in providing supplemental oxygen therapy to patients. (p 352) 5. Demonstrate the use of a nasal cannula in providing supplemental oxygen therapy to patients. (p 352)

Setup: Please the manikin on a surface and lay out the devices. Between students disassemble the oxygen system and lay out the parts so that the student must attach the regulator and start from scratch.

Instructions to be read to students: “This patient is short of breath – please provide oxygen by non-rebreathing mask.”
