C.2.B – Pediatric Transport Station 1 – Pediatric Immobilization

Objectives: 1. Demonstrate how to immobilize a pediatric patient who has been involved in a trauma emergency in a car seat. (pp 1189–1190, Skill Drill 32-6) 2. Demonstrate how to properly secure a pediatric patient involved in a medical emergency for transport in an ambulance. (pp 1189–1191, Skill Drill 32-7)

Deployment: DO NOT LECTURE – your students should be working hands-on within 5 minutes of arriving Deploy your students in one team – have the rescuers do each station individually.

Scenario III: Stable Toddler

Scenario I: Stable infant in car seat

Event: This patient was in a frontal collision MVA at 40mph. There is significant damage to the vehicle. The patient is crying loudly. Breathing 28 bpm, warm, dry, cap refill 2 seconds. Students should immobilize him using a KED or PediBoard.

Station II: Stable Toddler with a medical complaint

C.2.A – Pediatric Transport (30 min)

Event: This patient is at home suffering from asthma. There is no car seat at the house. The patient is alert. breathing 24 bpm and shallow. He will remain stable throughout the transport. He will need to be retrained in a car seat intended for ambulance transport. You can use the one provided by Less Stress, or whatever the agency uses if you are at a client site.
