July-August Newsletter 2018

President’s Message M y how time has flown by this year! I remember Ron Ward telling me that “your year as president will pass by quickly” and he was so right. Here we are in June, our kids and grands are out of school, the pool is open, summer camps are going strong, new activities are occurring at the tennis complex and great golf is being played on two courses that are in the best condition that I can remember.

Our Membership Marketing Committee has developed a new program to increase membership inside the gates of Greystone. You will be hearing about our “Hey Neighbor” program and we will be having parties throughout Greystone to introduce our reduced initiation for a social membership. Our goal is to make our club facilities the focal point and place to be for our neighborhood. Please invite your neighbors who are not members to these events. We continue to have children’s events at the club and on Saturday, July 21st there will be a Children’s Wildlife Breakfast at Founders. The Birmingham Zoo will be bringing some animals ranging from birds, reptiles and small mammals and a program featuring the animals will be held at 10 AM. Breakfast will be served at 9AM. This should be a fun event. I continue to hear compliments on the quality of the food at Greystone. Dave and Chef Alan are introducing the Chef’s Corner which will be located between Cellar 91 and Fitness where you will be able to pick up a prepared meal to take home for your family. Stop by and check it out! I want to take this opportunity to thank our board and all of our committees for their efforts in making this a great year at Greystone. In July we will again give the club an update on our financials and I think you will be pleased. Our nominating committee is at work and we will be asking members to volunteer to serve on committees for next year. If you have an interest in serving, please send Dave and Mallory an email. Thank you again for giving me this opportunity to serve our club and I hope everyone has a fantastic summer! I’ll see you at the club! Lane Milam Club President, 2018

We are having a great year at Greystone. I hope all of you had an opportunity to experience the Regions Tradition. The feedback we have received has been excellent. I want to recognize Dave Porter and his staff; as well as our Regions Tradition Committee led by Jim O’Brien for their effort in making this a great event for our members. In addition to watching the pros, the nightly entertainment was fantastic, our member viewing area was a big hit and our staff did a great job serving outstanding food prepared by Chef Alan and his team. I also want to thank our 100+ member volunteers who committed numerous hours to make this tournament a success. Thank you for your service. If you had an opportunity to see the tournament on the Golf Channel, our course looked absolutely phenomenal! The pros and tour officials raved about the course all week and this was due to the work of Jason Miller and his team. Thanks Jason for a job well done. Our Member – Member Tournament has just concluded and congrat- ulations to Barry Tidwell and George Drakos on their victory. The rainy weather over the past few weeks made the course difficult with thick rough on both courses. A few weeks prior we held our Member- Guest Tournament and congratulations to Gene Townley and Doug Mills on their victory. Our golf staff did a fantastic job putting on both events and our F&B team put on some great parties for both events. With summer here, I know our members will be spending time at the Greystone pools. Andy Gray has our pool complex operating better than ever. I want to congratulate Andy for achieving 100% scores on all of the pool inspections. Andy and his team are working hard to make sure our members have a great experience this summer. Ryen and his team have come up with a new activity at the tennis complex. They have launched “Pickleball” which is played on a short court with a wood paddle. This is a fun game for all ages, so please give it a try. July 4th falls in the middle of the week this year, so many of us will not be traveling. Greystone will have another great event planned for our national holiday with both golf courses and the tennis complex going full speed! There will be a pool party and cookout for those that want to beat the heat. The Radio Flyer Children’s Parade and kid’s carnival will be in the afternoon followed by our fireworks show at dusk. Reservations are required for clubhouse seating. Please make your reservations early. 4
