Support and learning AN UPDATE FROM THE QUEENSLAND PRIVATE PRACTICE MEMBER NETWORK

SPEECH PATHOLOGISTS WORKING in private practice enjoy the freedom of choosing their own caseload and the flexibility of choosing their working hours. Private practice also means that therapists need to develop both their clinical and their business skills. The Queensland SPA Private Practice Member Network was established to support the unique needs of private practice therapists in Queensland. Benefits of participating in the SPA Private Practice Network • Meet other therapists who are experienced in private practice in a very friendly, welcoming forum. • Learn about how to set up your own private practice. • Gain confidence in business knowledge such as marketing, accounts, recruiting and legal issues. • Learn about your rights as an employee in private practice. • Network with other private practice therapists in your area. • Collaborate with other therapists on joint projects. • Receive updates about SPA and private practice. Activities for 2019 • The Practice to Practice supper evenings will be launched in 2019. Local medical and allied health professionals (e.g. psychologists, dietitians, pediatricians) are invited to discuss topics related to speech pathology. These are to be held regularly in Brisbane, hopefully with our rural and remote colleagues zooming in. • Rural and remote teleconferences will be held once a term. This is a wonderful way to connect with SPA • The annual Speech Pathology Private Practice Business Seminar will be held in October/November. This is a day to learn about the business and legal side of private practice. The business seminar is very popular with both new and experienced therapists. How to get updates on the SPA Private Practice Member Network • Facebook - we advertise events on the SPA Private Practice Member Network page and the SPA Queensland Branch Member Community page. • Emails from SPA - look out for private practice member network events. • Regional and rural members will be contacted to confirm groups for both the regional and rural teleconferences and our new Practice to Practice events. If you are not contacted by the end of January and would like to join a local group, please contact us or National Office directly. Call out to new members Join our group in 2019 by attending any of our events. We look forward to welcoming and supporting you. We hope to make this group better for all members and welcome your feedback.
