New York Yankees solar powered

The New York Yankees may be known for 27 World Series championships and 40 American League pennants, but a strong commitment to raising environmental awareness may be less familiar. However, this commitment has encouraged Canadian Solar Inc, one of the world’s largest solar companies, to become an official sponsor of Major League Baseball’s possibly most successful franchise. Since its opening in 2009, Yankee Stadium has instituted various waste-reducing activities, including the establishment of the Yankees Sustainability Facility Program, to help promote responsible energy consumption and community improvement. The program ensures the efficiency of all equipment, focusing on reduced energy consumption. During the 2010 season, waste management, composting and recycling helped divert more than 35% of Yankee Stadium’s litter away from landfills, and almost 9,000 gallons of cooking oil, used in the stadium last year, was converted into roughly 7,000 gallons of biodiesel fuel.
