NAME: MATTHEW GODFREY ROLE: STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH

Describe your role within Ulster Rugby? Developing and implementing programmes to improve the athletic performance of all players involved within the Academy, NTS (National Training Squad) and Age Grade programme. Describe your career / employment history? Having graduated from Northumbria University in 2013. I joined Ulster Rugby as a volunteer. I have been employed full time within the Academy since 2014. Favourite thing about your job? First of all coaching, and then seeing players develop and progress into the senior setup - watching them succeed and achieve their goals. What do you enjoy most about working for Ulster Rugby? The camaraderie between all staff and players. It is an enjoyable atmosphere to work within.

What is your biggest achievement to date? It’s not my personal achievements, but rather seeing teams and players I coach succeed. What is the most challenging aspect of your role? Not seeing a player reach their true potential. What are your plans/goals for the upcoming season? To continue to push and develop players within the Academy programme, ensuring they are in the best place possible to perform. Who is your favourite Ulster player? Kyle McCall
