And I love it when you get the respect of some of the younger people who look at you first like, ‘He’s not going to know what I’m after!’ But I do know – I may not listen to it, but I know all about A.B. Original.” And there are indeed many younger people who come to Bill for advice. “I serve so many 14, 15-year-old girls and guys buying for friends and family. And it’s coming up to Father’s Day – that’s my time! People want ideas. I love that.” Bill's passion particularly shines when it comes to vinyl: “An album is a concept – it’s about the packaging, about what song follows what, what song finishes side one, what song starts side two, and the artwork that goes with it,” he says. With a 5000-strong CD collection at home (with 200 or more of those signed by the artists – Bill says he’s “so lucky” to have had the opportunity to meet some of his idols over the years) his favourites include Elvis, The Beatles, Stereophonics, and Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith. “Also the Scottish band Travis, and I love the new Amy Shark album… it just never ends!
