Более двух десятилетий Уральский регион и, в част- ности, Екатеринбург представляют собой площадку для различного рода танцевальных экспериментов. Часто в прессе Екатеринбург называют «столицей современного танца». Постановки екатеринбургских хореографов не раз признавались лауреатами Национальной театральной премии «Золотая маска» (Эксцентрик-балет Сергея Смирнова за «Глиняный ветер», «Тряпичный угол», «Голос»; «Провинциальные танцы» Татьяны Багановой и их «Кленовый сад», «Свадебка», «Песня не про любовь»). В этом году факультет современного танца на базе Гуманитарного университета – единственный в своем роде факультет в России, который профессионально обучает современному танцу – отмечает 10 лет. Дисциплины современного танца (джаз,джаз-модерн,contemporary dance) также включены в образовательные программы других ВУЗов Екатеринбурга, которые занимаются подготовкой кадров в области хореографии (УрГПУ, РГППУ). Многие театры Екатеринбурга представляли на своих сценах данс-спектакли (Театр музыкальной комедии, Театр юного зрителя, Театр драмы). НоЕкатеринбургскийгосударственныйакадемический театроперыибалетаникогда раньшенепопадал вполе зрения ценителей современного танца. В связи с этим примечателен проект H2O, который был специально подготовлен художественным руководителем балета Екатеринбургского театра оперы и балета Вячеславом Самодуровым для 2-ой Уральской индустриальной биеннале современного искусства. Проект, который мог быть назван «отрицание привычного», пропитан стремлением к другому танцевальному языку, другой сцене, желанием мыслить и двигаться по-другому. Имея перед собой столь уникальный для балет- ной традиции Екатеринбурга и Уральского региона проект, можно увидеть в нем множество новаторских идей. Одна из них – использование нестандартного помещения, которое никогда не предназначалось для выступлений артистов. Сам факт использования не- стандартного пространства современным танцем не является чем-то непривычным. After more than two decades the Ural region in general, andEkaterinburginparticular,areaplatformforavarietyof experimentation in dance.Ekaterinburg is often referred to as “the capital of modern dance” in the press. The stagings of Ekaterinburg choreographers have been repeatedly recognized,winning honors such as the National Theater‘s Award “Golden Mask” (given to Sergei Smirnov’s Eccentric Ballet for works such as“ClayWind,”“The Ragged Corner,” and “Voice,” and Tat’yana Bagova’s Provincial Dances troupe for «Maple Orchard”, “Little Wedding” and “This Is Not a Love Song”). Three times the annual festival of contemporary dance “On the Edge” has been held in Ekaterinburg.This year the department of modern dance at the Ekaterinburg Gumanitarnyi Universitet celebrated its tenth anniversary, the only programof its kind in Russia to offer instruction in contemporary dance.The disciplines of modern dance (jazz, jazz- modern, contemporary) are also part of the curriculum at other Ekaterinburg universities which offer programs in choreography, such as the Urals GPU and RGPPU. Many theaters in Ekaterinburg hold contemporary dance performances on their stages (e.g.,the Musical Comedy Theater,the Theater for YoungAudiences, the Dramatic Theater). However, the Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater has never attracted the attention of connoisseurs of contemporary dance. In this context we find the noteworthy project “H20,” which was specially staged by Vyacheslav Samodurov, the ballet artistic director of the Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater for the 2nd Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art. The project might have been dubbed “the denial of the habitual” since the entire project was motivated by a pursuit of another language for dance, for a different mise-en-scene and desire to think and move differently. When faced with such a unique project for ballet tradition of Ekaterinburg and Urals, one can see the number of innovative ideas. One of them is the use of non- standard space never intended for dramatic performance. The use of non-standard spaces in contemporary dance is not a recent phenomenon. Some obvious examples of centers for theatrical and artistic experiments include Hamburg’s Internationale Kampnagel Fabrik (a former factory),the TateModern in London (whose premises were a former power station), the Zollverein Choreographic Center in Essen (the well-known Zollverein coal mine), the Tanzwerkstt in Munich, the Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, and many others.
