Love is all you need, according toThe Beatles, but sometimes a great romantic movie is just as essential – especially on February 14th.Whether its a classic, a comedy, or a more complicated affair, you'll be enamoured with JB's selection on offer this month. Words Scott Hocking

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S Much of the love for Blake Edwards' 1961 classic is thanks to Audrey Hepburn's chic, free-spirited (and aptly named) Holly Golightly. One of cinema's great characters, she's a bona fide pop culture and style icon. The romance that blooms between Holly and her upstairs neighbour (George Peppard) might be complicated, but the film's breezy tone makes it as irresistible as a coffee and Danish. 500 DAYS OF SUMMER A guy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who believes in true love meets a girl (Zooey Deschanel) who doesn't. However, thanks to a mutual appreciation for The Smiths, they begin a relationship of sorts. Director Mark Webb spins a quirky rom-com that randomly cycles through the titular time period, creating a mosaic of moments that explore the notion of true romance. LA LA LAND Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s relationship inspires them to frequently break into a Fred and Ginger routine, but that’s more about bringing an old fashioned Hollywood flavour to a contemporary romance. This thoroughly endearing story about falling in love and chasing your dreams is charming without being overly twee, and bittersweet when you least expect it.

FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL A rom-com classic that will leave you feeling so darn good, you won't even notice if it's raining. Celebrating love in all its forms, it's as charming as Hugh Grant's stammering bachelor and as British as the Royal Family. It also turned the Wet Wet Wet ballad Love is All Around into the '90s bridal waltz of choice, and paved the way for subsequent Brit-roms like Love, Actually . HER If you've ever secretly thought that Siri has a sexy voice, this techno-romance is for you. Joaquin Phoenix plays a lonely guy who finds friendship and intimacy with 'Samantha', his new interactive operating system (with the voice of Scarlett Johansson). Her is a love story for a generation in love with technology, and a brilliant vision of a future that's just around the corner. PRETTY WOMAN One of the most successful and best-loved rom-coms of all time is a simple reworking of the Cinderella story (and My Fair Lady ), complete with fairy tale ending and a heart as big as Julia Roberts' smile – and perm. It's a formula that couldn't fail, especially when the stars have more chemistry than a science lab. There's a reason the world fell in love with Julia Roberts, and this is it. I LOVE YOU, MAN A socially awkward guy (Paul Rudd) embarks on a series of disastrous 'man-dates' to find a suitable best man for his impending wedding, meeting colourful slacker (Jason Segel), who's skilled in the art of male bonding. I Love You, Man is a buddy film in the spirit of Judd Apatow, and a bromantic comedy for girls who want to better understand their man.

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING If ever a relationship tested the limits of

commitment and defied the odds, it's the one between Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) and his devoted wife Jane (Felicity Jones). Her unwavering support and encouragement through his physical decline is just one aspect of a romance every bit as complex as Hawkings' theories concerning the origin of the universe.
