ITS 82/83 Re-route By Charlie Huntington
H istory - ITS 82-83 between Medway & Milo has seen a series of re-routes over the last couple of years. Last year logging north of Endless Lake made it necessary to route 82/83 along East Branch Sno-Rovers’ 109 to South Twin Lake. From there it ran along Jo-Mary’s 111 for a short way. This connected with the Northern Timber Cruiser’s Katahdin Area Multi Use Trail (KAMUT) to Sebois where Milo’s Devil’s Sledders came
norther to make the connec tion. This got a little more complicated when 109 was plowed for 4 miles. To avoid this, an old trail, the Nollese mic Cross Over, was reincar nated to make the connection to 111 a few miles closer to Millinocket. 2 re-routes in 1 season! This Year – The plowed sec tion of 109 will be back as snowmobile trail once again. The Nollesemic Crossover will remain as an extra trail. BUT
– logging in the Milo/Brown ville system made it impos sible to make the connection to Sebois. A lot of work went into the search for an alter native and it was decided that using 111 as the re-route will be the best option. By the time this is published the route should be completely signed. Big thanks to the Milo Devil’s Sledders, Brownville Snowmobile Club, Ebeemee Snowmobile Club, Jo-Mary Riders, and East Branch Sno-Rovers for all their work in the planning & signing process to make this happen! Also thanks to the Northern Timber Cruisers for the use of the KAMUTTrail last year. Who knows what next year will bring. Maybe we’ll be back to our normal trail sys tem, but whatever comes up, communicating and working together as a team with all the local clubs involved, will make it work!
