Small towns make big things happen when volunteers take the lead. Monticello has a number of groups and organizations who are working hard to make a difference, with examples including Monticello Chamber of Commerce, Community Club, Lions and Lioness, Excellence in Education, Historical Society, and Green Cares Food Pantry. Here are just a few examples of volunteer-driven initiatives in Monticello: · Raising funds for educational programming outside of school district’s operating budget · Christmas Decorating Contest · Small Business Saturday · Homecoming festival and parade · Lake Montesian Fisheree · Valentine baskets for the homebound and holiday baskets for families in need · Easter Egg Hunt · Spring Fling · Donations and fund raising for food pantry · Serving as a docent at museum · Vision screening and diabetes awareness at health fair · Santa visits at Fire Station · Scholarship fundraisers for local students · Funding for improvements at Lake Montesian, Village Park, and the community pool If you’d like to get involved, a great place to start and learn more is by clicking on the “Community Info” tab on the Monticello Chamber of Commerce website: monticello-chamber.com.
