13.4. Glare management in reflector-type optics

Xenon external glare-shield

In addition to using a cut-off pattern, light can also be prevented from leaving the end of the light bulb. This is achieved on Halogen lamps by using an opaque coating that caps the end of the bulb.

Some reflector-type applications require an external metal shield. l This is mandatory for Xenon lamps. l In some cases, it can be used to meet photometric regulations. l It can also help in reducing temperature on the bezel.
