SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

The cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is the finest example of Romanesque art in Spain and the ulti- mate destination on the Way of Saint James , a pilgrim route travelled every year by thousands of people from all corners of the world. Wander around its historic quarter. The collegiate church of Santa María la Real del Sar , the Museum of the Galician People , the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos (today converted into a Parador hotel), the Casa do Cabildo and the Galician Contemporary Art Centre (GAC) are all well worth a visit. If you have any time left, head for the beautiful towns of Vigo , Orense and Portomarín .
