Passenger cars account for 87.3% of all motor vehicles produced in the EU in 2023. Even though passenger car production in the EU continued to grow in 2023 (after the recovery in production from 2022), up 11.2% from 2022, it still fell short of pre-COVID pandemic levels with 12,504,307 passenger cars produced in 2023. It was only about 86% of the pre-COVID-19 level. e Czech Republic has consolidated its position as the third largest producer of passenger cars in the European Union with 1,398,000 passenger cars in 2023 (with a year-on-year increase of 15%). e largest producer of passenger cars in the EU is Germany (4,109,000) by a wide margin ahead of Spain (1,907,000). Germany thus retains its position as the largest passenger car producer in the EU in 2023 with a 32.9% share of total production. Spain followed in second place with a 15% share. e Czech Republic ranked third with a share of 11.2% of total passenger car production. e average share of automotive GVA in GDP across the European Union was 1.4% in 2022. However, in some Member States, the share was signi cantly higher, re ecting the signi cant impact of the sector on their economies. e Czech Republic returned to the top position in 2022 with the highest share of automotive GVA
