3.5 Passenger car market: penetration, age, arrival of alternative fuels is part of the study looks more closely at domestic demand, i.e. the Czech motor vehicle market. e data sources are mainly the Car Importers Association, which processes data from the Central Vehicle Register, and the Transport Research Centre. In the long term (since 1950), the number of registered passenger cars, trucks and buses in the Czech Republic has been growing steadily. e number of registered motorcycles peaked in the 1970s, followed by a rather dramatic decline in the 1990s. Since 2000, however, the total number of registered motorcycles has been rising again. e total number of registered passenger cars in the country increased by 2 million to 6.6 million cars from 2011 to 2023. e number in other categories in 2023 was as follows: 1.33 million for motorcycles, 635 thousand light commercial vehicles,

Source: Car Importers Association e average age of registered passenger cars in the Czech Republic has been increasing in recent years and reached 16.2 years at the end of 2023. Five years ago, it was 14.8 years. e average age of light commercial vehicles was 14.6 years, trucks 18.4 years and motorcycles 34 years.
