AOAC ERP Gluten Assays - March 2019

MEMORANDUM

Date:

March 12, 2019

To:

AOAC ERP for Gluten Assays

From:

Deborah McKenzie, Staff Liaison – AOAC Official Methods Board

Subject: AOAC 2012.01 Title / Scope Change In 2017, AOAC 2012.01 (Gliadin as a Measure of Gluten in Foods Containing Wheat, Rye, and Barley), was promoted to Final Action Official Methods status with the title change to Gliadin as a Measure of Gluten in Rice- and Corn- Based Foods , hence changing/reducing the applicability of the method. Since this time, several international laboratories have submitted many questions and concerns regarding this change in scope and the need to limit the scope via the title for this method. Attached are some of the comments provided directly to AOAC and to the method developer, R- Biopharm. RECOMMENDATION: 1. For R-Biopharm to present the presentation on the method provided during the original request for Final Action consideration as well as any new information. 2. For the ERP to deliberate on the feedback received based on the impact of the change to the method. 3. Review the decision on the scope of the AOAC 2012.01.
