END OF UNIT COMPETENCIES WITH LANGUAGE EXPECTATIONS

By the end of Unit 6, students will be able to: ● show understanding of properties of dilation given a center and scale factor ● use similarity theorems to prove triangles are similar using correct math vocabulary such as: ○ AA similarity theorem, SAS triangle similarity, SSS triangle similarity, similarity, triangle similarity ● write trigonometric ratios given side measurements of a right triangle ● prove the Pythagorean Identity using correct math vocabulary such as: ○ Complementary angles, angle sum theorem, sin, cos ● solve right triangles using trigonometric ratios ● fnd missing measurements by using proportions created by parallel lines by transversals and parallel lines in similar triangles ● use trigonometry and Pythagorean theorem to solve problems in context SCAFFOLDING IN ACTION

● Lesson 6.1: Launch - read aloud, use real world examples of dilations, Explore - chunk the task by starting with #2, then do 1 and 3, then 4 - 5, successive partner shares, Discuss - Think-Pair-Share ● Lesson 6.2 - Launch - Think-Pair-Share, use Geogebra/Geometers Sketchpad, Explore - Successive partner shares ● Lesson 6.3: Explore - chunk the task by starting with 5 - 6, then do 7, then focus on 8 - 10 with discussion in between ● Lesson 6.4: Launch - co-craft questions about parallel lines, Explore - provide rulers, Discuss - colored pencils or highlighters to color-code line segments ● Lesson 6.5: Launch - review take-aways from congruent angles formed by parallel lines, Explore - use colored pencils to color-code quadrilaterals and pentagons ● Lesson 6.6: Launch - co-craft questions about the context, Explore - successive partner shares ● Lesson 6.7: Jump start - triangle manipulatives, chunk the task into smaller parts ● Lesson 6.8: Launch - Think-Pair-Share, graphic organizer for #3, Explore - successive partner shares ● Lesson 6.9: Launch - Think-Pair-Share, Explore - provide a reference sheet for inverse trig ratios ● Lesson 6.10: Launch - annotate 3-steps for each problem, Explore - chunk the task by choosing two problems from each section
