Juco Roundup Playoff Spots Decided

Mitchell Young blocked a punt and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown and Anthony Jackson scored on a one-yard plunge to spark Northwest past ltawamba last week. Itawamba's lone score came on a 36-yard field goal by Brad Waycaster. Gulf Coast averages 29.5 points per game and has allowed opponents to 9.7 points per contest. Other games last week saw Holmes blast Coahoma 54-0, Mississippi Delta nip East Mississippi 10-7, Northeast beat Southwest 21-14, Gulf Coast defeat Hinds 19-10, Jones stop East cen– tral23-16 and Copiah-Lincoln trounce Pearl River 3(}.15. There are several heated regular-season finales this week besides the Northwest-Gulf Coast matchup. East Mississippi travels to Copiah-Lincoln to– day. Saturday's schedules show Jones' Bobcats at Coahoma, East Central at Southwest, Hinds at Itawamba and Holmes at Pearl River East Central will be seeking its first division win of the seasorr. The Warriors are G-5 in the diYIIion and 3-6 overall.

The Mississippi Junior College Conference closes out the regular season this week with all of the playoffs spots decided. Playoffs begin next week with North Division champion Northwest battling J ones, the South Division runnerup. South Division champion Gulf Coast will play the Itawamba Indians, runnersup in the North Division. Unbeaten Northwest, 6-0 in the division and 9~0 overall, trimmed Itawamba 14-3 Saturday to cap– ture the North Division crown. Itawamba still managed to clinch a second– place spot in the division and gain a playoff berth, however. The Indians are 4-2 in the division and 6-3 overall. Mississippi Delta can improve it's North Divi– sion record to 4-2 today with a win over Northeast However, Delta will not grab a playoff berth because Itawamba will have a better overall record. Delta is currently 3-6 overall, three wins shy of Itawamba. Northwest, second-ranked in the national juruor college poll, hosts No. 4 Gulf Coast Saturday in wbat could be a possible state championship
