6A-L.The Newton Record, September 21,1983 ECJC- Newton t:onnectJon!

The ECJC Warriors are now a perfect 3-0 after Saturday night's ex– ;iting 14-10 win over Northeast at Decatur... it was a "good one"! This writer kinda slid around the sidelines getting a few 35MM shots and getting an eyeball view and ear-full of JC football at its best. ..the Warriors are for real, especially on defense. Several former Newton folks were very prominant in the Saturday night spectacle. Tigers or Warriors such as AI Walker (scored a pair of touchdowns), "the Maniac" Loyce Hardy, LB Arthur McMillan, DT Mike Gibbs and DB Mike Spence plus punter Todd Yar– brough ...made Newton proud. Then all of a sudden three cute, sweet, charming Warrior cheerleaders grabbed me...none other than former Big Blue yellers Denise Cumberland, Kathy Reeves and Nina Glaze! They are still full of vim, vigor and vitality...and ole Van's crazy 'bout'em! At halftime the Centralettes performed and there was Jimmie Lynn Pierce and Christie Tatum...and of course the manager-of-all– managers is none other than Artis Johnson Gust ask Coach Kilpatrick). It's good to see Newton getting involved in ECJC sports ...went to EC myself... played football and baseball. ..met my wife there, she was a cheerleader and the HC Queen ... owe alot to ECJC...guess that's why I pull for the ECJC Warriors and former Tigs ... "Warrior Beat"!
