General Information Workwear is often used for thermal insulation or high visibility (with reflective stripes). But clothing is also intended to provide protection to infrared and ultraviolet radiation or contamination. Protective clothing must withstand as many types of hazards that may occur in the workplace. That may be sparks during welding or by asbestos fibers. Visibility can also be a requirement for protective clothing, such as road workers or the fire service. When the employer based on the hazards choose for protective clothing the employee is mandatory wearing it.

Maintenance protective clothing Protective clothing should mainly be comfortable and not constricting. It should as far as possible tailored to the wearer. The clothes must also be ventilated sufficiently in order to avoid moist or too much insulation ,so that the wearer not overheats. It is important that the clothing is clean, to prolonged skin contact with contamination (eg chemicals) and other contaminants. This applies in particular when the clothes needs to protect against chemicals. Such clothing is afterwards often disposed of as chemical waste, while other clothing should can be rinsed or washed several. Flame retardant clothing should regularly be treated. Cleaning should be done in a specially equipped laundry.
