Jeffrey Brunner, KVH’s vice president of operations for military and fiber optic products, explained, “The small size, precision, and affordability of these products are key reasons why they are rapidly becoming the gyro of choice in a growing universe of applications. “This 50,000 unit milestone includes single-axis sensors used in weapon and optical stabilization as well as fully integrated multi-axis inertial measurement units (IMUs) used in torpedoes, dynamic surveying applications, and other projects requiring the level of precise measurement that only FOGs can offer. “Engineers and system integrators

50,000 FOG milestone

Following continued demand for precision pointing and stabilization in a growing number of military and commercial applications, KVH Industries Inc has produced its 50,000 th fiber optic gyro (FOG). KVH manufactures the high-precision FOG using single-mode, polarization-maintaining E*CoreTM and E*Core ThinFiber technology and digital signal processing (DSP) electronics.

Transtelco has completed an agreement with the Fairport, NY-based communications provider PAETEC, to complete the remaining leg of its Texas fiber route between El Paso and Temple and to purchase routes linking the rest of Central Texas from PAETEC. Under the arrangement Transtelco obtains a 50 per cent share of the PAETEC route to El Paso allowing it to significantly increase its fiber capacity and provide additional SONET ring diversity to its client base operating across the southern US and Northern Mexico. “Collaborating with PAETEC... provides Transtelco not only with additional further diversification within its cross border network but assures us that our goal of operating one of the most reliable networks on the US/Mexico border will ensue,” said Miguel Fernandez, CEO of Transtelco.

“Additionally, the significantly increased fiber capacity and the ability to now provide SONET diversity between locations within our network will allow us to better meet the growing needs of our cross border clients.” Work to complete the final El Paso – Temple route is underway, and the Central Texas route is expected to be available for service in 3Q 2011. “This agreement with Transtelco supports our overall strategy to continue to serve our customers Chesonis, chairman and CEO of PAETEC. “Creating a joint venture with a well established fiber operator like Transtelco allows us to not only expand our extensive US fiber network, but also presents additional services not before available to our Texas customers.” through expanded fiber network,” said Arunas A

regularly turn to KVH for reliable, innovative solutions like our new DSP-1750 to support everything from cutting-edge new programs and experimental projects to upgrades for existing systems.” KVH’s FOGs provide angular rotation data without any moving parts, which significantly improves the life span of the device and allows for reliable performance in applications with high shock and/or vibration. KVH is believed to be the only fiber optic gyro manufacturer to produce its own specially designed optical fiber, giving the company complete control over the entire production process.
