ONSITE NURSE WELLNESS VISIT

We had a very successful turnout at the recent Onsite Nurse visit. Employees were able to get their biometric screenings, blood pressures and bone density checked. We even had a lotto and 2 lucky participants Daniel and Laura won a Fitbit and a Spa gift basket. We hope to see you at the next event in September.

POPULAR GLOBAL AUGUST HOLIDAYS...

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY Friendship day was originally founded by Hallmark in 1919. It was intended to be a day for people to celebrate their friend- ship by sending each oth- er cards, but by 1940 the market had dried up, and eventually, it died out completely. However, in 1998 Winnie the Pooh was

named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at the United Na- tions and in April 2011 the Unit- ed Nations officially recognized 30th July as International Friend- ship Day; although most countries celebrate on the first Sunday of August!

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY August 12 marks the annual celebra- tion of International Youth Day, as in- itiated by the United Nations. It is an international day of awareness, recognizing youth across the globe and empowering the world's youth to make positive contributions to their communities and nations. The theme of International Youth Day 2019, “Transforming education”, highlights efforts to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.

EASTERSEALS AT FRENCHMAN’S CREEK

Last month, Frenchman's Creek welcomed Easterseals students (with special needs). Easterseals is non profit organization that offers indispensable resources to more than a million people and families living with a disability annually. The 2 lucky students spent the day with us learning about our culture, philosophy, and standards. Big thanks to everyone involved for making this day so special for them, and helping them feel empowered and more confident entering the workforce.

Quick fixes For Sore Muscles A vigorous fitness routine sometimes

comes at a price: muscle soreness. Try these pre- and post-workout mus- cle treatments to ease the pain and speed recovery fol- lowing a tough workout.

1. Stretch it out. Before your workout, an extended warm-up and stretch routine will fully prepare your body for exercise and reduce the effects of DOMS. Take the time to perform gentle dynamic stretches [stretches that involve movement] before your fitness routine. 2. Warm up before weight training. Many people jumping straight to the weight rack when they get to the gym, but loading your mus- cles without adequate preparation not only increases your chances of getting severe DOMS, it also puts you at risk for a pulling a ten- don, ligament, or muscle during your workout. Doing the cardio portion first really warms up your muscles. 3. Ice and heat therapy: Cold baths have been found to significantly reduce muscle soreness. A few hours after an intense fitness ses- sion, apply a heating pad or other heat source. Muscle tightness is a cause of increased pain for many people, and stimulating the blood flow and loosening up sore muscles with heat can help speed up the healing process.

WOWing Stacy (Pastry) and Eduardo (Cold Kitchen). Due to a scheduling conflict, the chef designated to cook the employee meals was out, but Stacy and Eduardo jumped in and ensured that the employee meals were prepared and served timely (in addition to completing their assigned duties). Great job guys!!!
