The cathedral contains the royal tombs from Queen Mar­ grethe (1375-1412) onwards to King Christian X (1912-47); 41 royal tombs can bc seen, of thesc 18 arc sarcophagi in marble and alabaster. Perched high 011 the Southern wall o f the main aislc a mcchanical clock from around 1500 with St. George and the Dragon, and the figures “ Kirsten Kimer” and “ Per Dover” . In the chapel of King Christian IV the well known paintings by Marstrand “ Trefoldighcdcn” (O11 the deck o f the “ Trinity” ) and “ Kongen dommer” (The king as judge). The church is linked with the royal palais by the Absalon bridge. The town hall, built 1883-85, but the tower dates from the partly torn down Set. Lavrentii Kirke (church o f St. Lawrence). The foun- dations o f this church exeavated 011 the niarked placc in 1931 and are preserved in a vault. The church was built in 1100, and torn down in 1537- Roskilde Museum, 18, Set. Admittance, apply to the caretakcr. CO PENH AG EN -NO R TH Z E A LA N D Copenhagen-Helsingør (Elsinore) by the Strandvejen (coastal roal), 44 km. One the most beautiful coastlines in Dcnmark is the stretch between Copenhagen and Elsinore, the socallcd “ Danish Riviera” . The Strand­ vej is a continuation o f Østerbrogade and passes by the Tuborg brew- crics through Hellerup to Charlottcnlund with “ Danmarks Akvarium” (Denmark’s Aquarium), and the old fortifications, which now arc a public bathing bcach. From Charlottcnlund the Strandvej forks into the new, modern “ Vandstrandvej” (embankment) to the right, and the old, idyllic road to the left. Bchind the fishing hamlet Skovs- hoved, now with a large, modern yachting harbour, the roads reunite at “ Hvidorc” , the former residcnce o f the latc Dowagcr Queen Alexandra and the late Czarcvna Dagmar, now a rcconvalcsccnce home.
