LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Long-term: Private on-campus 8-bedroom residence hall, including living room, dining room, full kitchen, laundry room. Short-term: Dorm room or residential housing with the Sisters of Providence. SIZE OF PROGRAM: Long-term: 3-5 interns in winter; 8 interns in summer. Short-term: Varies. TRAINING: Long-term: Ongoing training-the internship program is designed to be an educational experience and training. Short-term: Training provided for each task assigned as needed. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Spanish-speaking college graduates to serve at the Working Boys' Center in Quito, Ecuador. Volunteers live in community in a volunteer residence on center property with free room and board. Volunteers primarily teach- the focus of their teaching depends on the volunteers areas of expertise as well as the needs of the people. Volunteers serve with all members of the Center families- from small children to adults. AREA OF SERVICE: Quito, Ecuador LENGTH OF SERVICE: Mid-August through mid-July. This is just over 11 months. REQUIREMENTS: College graduate or equivalent experience. Minimum of intermediate fluency in Spanish. All religions are welcome- we just request all volunteers be willing to participate in Catholic liturgy. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Room and board provided. Volunteer responsible for travel and other expenses. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Live in volunteer house with other volunteers. Each volunteer has their own bedroom and bathroom, as well as community living spaces such as living room, fully-stocked kitchen, dining room, and library. SIZE OF PROGRAM: 5-15 volunteers each year. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Long-term (1 year with the opportunity to renew) and short-term (3-months) include: General appointment driving; Care Center activities; various cleaning jobs; Care Center laundry, Peace Center hospitality; vegetable preparation; social outreach (Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, etc); Nursing; Nurse's Aid; Receptionist; Gardening. GOAL OF PROGRAM: The Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program is an ecumenical, faith-based year of service for young people, ages 19-30, in 21 sites around the world and in the United States. YAVs accompany local agencies working to address root causes of poverty and reconciliation while exploring the meaning and motivation of their faith in community with peers and mentors. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: One to two year placement opportunities in either direct-service, education & awareness or advocacy type placements. YAV placements address eco-justice/sustainability; accountability to international neighbors and the global community; income equality; food justice; education; immigration reform; interfaith efforts; and more.
