It develops leaders for the church and world who are committed to building a more just and loving society. Volunteers are asked to engage thoughtfully throughout their experience with the Amate House tenets of community, social justice, stewardship, faith, and service. With a network of over fifty Chicago area non-profits, Amate House works diligently to place volunteers with the perfect service job, including positions at legal aid centers, low-income community health clinics, inner-city schools, parishes, and social service organizations. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: We place volunteers in a wide variety of positions including: youth and family services, elder care, health education and outreach, immigrant and refugee services, nursing, legal aid, social services, education, youth ministry and many more. Amate House has placements for registered nurses. AREA OF SERVICE: Chicago, IL LENGTH OF SERVICE: The program is approximately 11 months, beginning in early August and running through mid-June. A second year of service is possible, including a new service site experience. REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be single adults between the ages of 21-29, with a college degree or equivalent life experience. Volunteers are expected to commit to living out the Amate House tenets of community, social justice, stewardship, faith, and service. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Transportation, room and board provided as well as health insurance. Volunteers receive a monthly allowance and an end of the year bonus. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Volunteers live in intentional community with 9-12 other volunteers. Each volunteer has a private room. SIZE OF PROGRAM: We have between 18 and 21 volunteers each year. TRAINING: Two week orientation at the beginning of the year. Ongoing education and formation activities throughout the year including: Fall, Winter, and Closing Retreats, Anti-Racism training and Restorative Justice in-services, Spiritual Direction, Professional Mentors, and Weekly Community Nights facilitated by Amate House Staff. LENGTH OF SERVICE: Typically Vitae Corps members volunteer for one year, but length of service may vary. REQUIREMENTS: Vitae Corps members are dedicated to Aid for Women's pro-life mission and play a vital role in affirming and supporting each mother in her decision to choose life. Vitae Corps members believe in the Church's teachings regarding sexual integrity and contraception. Members are female, age 21 and over. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Vitae Corps members receive free room and board, a $700 monthly stipend, health insurance, and access to the community vehicle. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Vitae Corps members live in community with other volunteer and with the mothers and children in the program. SIZE OF PROGRAM: There are three to four live-in staff/volunteers at each home. TRAINING: Full orientation and on-the-job training is provided. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Alliance for Catholic Education at St. Joseph's University 270 Connelly Hall, 5600 City Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19131 610-660-1766 acesju@sju.edu w sju.edu/acesju F facebook.com/sjuace CONTACT: Elizabeth Gallagher, Associate Director of Academics AFFILIATIONS: Catholic -Society of Jesus (Jesuit) GOAL OF PROGRAM: The Alliance for Catholic Education at St. Joseph's University is an innovative, two-year service program that provides recent college graduates the opportunity to serve as full- time teachers and administrators in under-resourced Catholic schools while pursuing a master's degree. To prepare these highly motivated new educators, ACESJU provides an intensive service experience encompassing four programmatic pillars: education, community, spirituality, and simple living. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Teaching (Elementary and Secondary) and Educational Administration (e.g., Admissions, Campus Ministry, Development). AREA OF SERVICE: Philadelphia, PA; Chester, PA; and Gloucester City, NJ LENGTH OF SERVICE: 2 years REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: A cost-free master's degree in education from St. Joseph's University (for Teaching Fellows) or master's degree in church management from Villanova University (for Administrative Fellows). Teaching Fellows earn their teaching certification in the state of Pennsylvania. All Fellows receive a stipend of approximately $1,000 per month. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: The ACESJU Fellows live together in an intentional community. Rent is paid by the program. Utilities are paid by the fellows. SIZE OF PROGRAM: There are currently 28 Teaching and Administrative Fellows. TRAINING: ACESJU Teaching and Administrative Fellows receive extensive training through their academic course work, from an ACESJU professional coach, from school-organized professional development opportunities, and through a leadership development program offered by the Fox Leadership Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
