GOAL OF PROGRAM: Amigos de Jesús is not a volunteer program- it is a children's home with volunteers. REQUIREMENTS: Long-term Program: Commitment to the values and spirituality of the Amigos de Jesús family. Willingness to live on- site in intentional community rooted in Catholic spirituality. College degree. 13-month commitment. Available to attend language school prior to start of service (up to 8 weeks) or fluency in Spanish. Positive physical and mental health. Openness to fundraising to offset costs. Strong work ethic, ability to work independently, deep love for children, self-awareness, and ability to laugh often and practice forgiveness! Summer Program: At least 1 year of post-high school work or study experience. Love for children. Willingness to live on-site in intentional community rooted in Catholic spirituality. Spanish helpful but not required. Short-term Program: 18 years or older. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Long-term Program: volunteers receive- room and board, stipend, health insurance, orientation and retreats, on-site support, and re-entry retreat and support. Volunteers are asked to fundraise to help offset cost of program; fundraising materials and support are offered by Amigos de Jesus. Additional incentives are offered to volunteers who stay beyond 13 months. Summer Program: Summer camp volunteers receive- room and board, orientation, on-site support. Summer volunteers are responsible for airfare and a $500 summer program fee. Short-term Program: Volunteers receive: room and board, orientation, on-site support. Short-term volunteers are responsible for airfare and a $250 program fee. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Long-term Program: Volunteer home/ community living on-site in simple 4 bedroom, 2 bath house with cold water. Running water is not always available. Summer Program: up to 4 volunteers per bedroom in 4 bedroom/2 bath home on- site with cold water. Short-term Program: up to 4 volunteers per bedroom in visitor quarters. SIZE OF PROGRAM: Long-term Program: Volunteer community: 4 to 10 volunteers. Summer Program: 8 to 16 volunteers. Short-term Program: 4 to 10 volunteers. TRAINING: Long-term Program: Volunteers receive Honduras-based orientation, education and child development training, and retreats. Re-entry retreat in US. Spanish language school (at own expense). Summer Program: Camp volunteers receive orientation, supervision,

needs by filling roles otherwise difficult to fill in rural Honduras. Volunteers of Amigos de Jesús supplement the work, but do not take jobs from the local community. Volunteers serve where needed, usually in education, administration, health care, child care and others. Volunteers fall in love with our amazing children, create life-long relationships with both our children and the staff, develop spiritually in new and unexpected ways, come to know themselves and God more deeply, and have a lasting impact on our family. Our mission is to be Friends of Jesus and, therefore, to imitate the behavior and attitude of Jesus Christ for the children of Amigos de Jesús. We aspire toward self-sustainability for both the Home and the children who graduate. We believe we are also disciples of these children and will be humbly transformed by the presence of Jesus Christ in the children. We strive to find hope; raising compassionate individuals prepared to break free from the cycle of poverty and violence while contributing positively to Honduran society. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Long-term Program: Variety of placements based on a mutual discernment process at start of term of service. Common placements include Education (English, Preschool, Physical Education, Special Education and tutoring); Communications and Public Relations; Health; Pastoral Ministry and Social Services. Other opportunities may be available. All placements involve direct work with the children. Summer Program: Counselors for English language summer camp. Short-term Program: Service in current needs of home AREA OF SERVICE: At our home in rural Honduras, Central America. LENGTH OF SERVICE: Long-term Program: 13 months minimum: service year begins in July of the first year and ends in August of the following year or begins in early February and ends in late February of the following year. May renew beyond year commitment in 6 month increments. Volunteers who are not fluent in Spanish are required to attend language school prior to service. Summer Program: June- August. Short-term Program: 1-3 weeks.
