GOAL OF PROGRAM: To share the love of Christ's Heart with those in need alongside and with the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, gaining an experience of the sisters' lifestyle, prayer and community life. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Special needs education, Pre-School through High School, Senior Adult Day Care, multi-racial and ethnic inner city service; immigration legal services. International service. AREA OF SERVICE: Hamden and Bridgeport, CT; Greensburg, PA; Saint Louis, MO; Bronx, NY; Albania, Haiti. LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1-6 weeks. REQUIREMENTS: Single women age 18-30. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Room and board and local transportation provided LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Single or Group living in community owned housing with opportunity for shared prayer, meals and recreation with Sisters. OUR MISSION: Glenmary's Group Volunteer Program is designed to give participants a firsthand experience of missionary service. Each week- long session is a retreat-like mission immersion blending the values of service, culture, prayer, reflection and sharing in an environment of simple living. It is the goal of the program to connect people with God, help them find Christ in others, and teach them to serve others first and put themselves second. Glenmary's long-term volunteers act as a catalyst to volunteer groups serving with Glenmary's Group Volunteer Program on Joppa Mountain (Toppa Joppa) and to those living in Tennessee's Grainger and Union counties. They not only help serve the needs of the materially needy living in these counties, but also the needs of the volunteers who come from a multitude of places in the United States to serve at Toppa Joppa. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Long-term: Five individuals to serve as leaders of the short-term groups. Short-term: Year round placements of five to 10 days in Appalachian setting for cross-cultural mission immersion experience. AREA OF SERVICE: Grainger and Union Counties in Tennessee LENGTH OF SERVICE: Long-term: 3-24 months are offered for those who want to serve longer than a week. Short-term: 2 -7 days are offered with preference given to groups who serve 6-7 days at site. REQUIREMENTS: Long-term: Mountain Managers must be 21 years and older and have a High School Degree, The Mountain Manager application includes background check and psychological to determine if the individual is suited for Mission life. Short term: 14 years and older open to serve a week in the missions of rural USA

FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Long-term: Room and board, full medical benefits, vehicle provided, unlimited long domestic telephone use, student loan assistance and monthly stipend. Short-term: Room and board and coverage by accidental injury insurance. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Long-term: Tiny houses in rural setting. Live in community with other long term volunteer(s). Short-term: Live in community with other volunteers in dormitory-style dwelling. SIZE OF PROGRAM: Long-term: Five long term volunteers per year in rural Appalachia. Short-term: Groups of 12 to 24 per week long session. TRAINING: Long-term: Orientation by Volunteer Director and other personnel of the Glenmary Home Missioners and local professionals. Our volunteers live out the four tenets of Social Justice, Simplicity, Spirituality, and Community, and are encouraged to maintain a commitment to these principles for a lifetime. Good Shepherd Volunteers, founded by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, is dedicated to honoring the sisters' core values of Individual Dignity, Mercy, Reconciliation, and Zeal. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Youth Counseling, Domestic Violence, Education, Foster Care, Community Outreach, Public Policy and Advocacy, Juvenile Justice, Fair Trade, Women's Empowerment. AREA OF SERVICE: Domestic Program: New York, NY; Wickatunk, NJ; Los Angeles, CA. International Program: Thailand LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year. Volunteers can choose to renew their commitment for a 2nd year of domestic or international service. REQUIREMENTS: Relevant service experience, awareness of human and social needs, ages 21 years and older, Bachelor's degree, maturity, flexibility, sense of humor, motivation toward the mission of Good Shepherd Volunteers to serve women, children, and adolescents affected by poverty, violence and neglect. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: GSV provides housing, health insurance, transportation, and a modest monthly stipend. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Volunteers live together in intentional community settings and share meals, discussions, and mutual support. SIZE OF PROGRAM: Approximately 25 volunteers. TRAINING: All volunteers are provided with an initial weeklong GSV Orientation as well as retreats during the year. Each volunteer has a supervisor and is provided with on-site training and support. Volunteers also receive support from GSV staff and support people throughout the year.
