Volunteers identify as being from the LGBTQ community and 20% as people of color. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Housing, health insurance, personal stipend, travel costs. Two weeks vacation. Student loans can usually be deferred or placed in forbearance. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Volunteers live in intentional communities of four to seven people. SIZE OF PROGRAM: Approximately 85 volunteers each year. TRAINING: Five-day National Orientation, local orientation, retreats during the year, and job training provided by placement agencies. As an LVC Volunteer, you will engage in a year of service in your particular social justice passion and receive training in social justice skills including consensus-building and conflict resolution, engaging people across difference; spiritual/faith discernment; and learning to garner and utilize resources effectively to achieve social justice goals. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications are processed in rounds and are usually due in January and April. See our website for specific dates. Earlier applicants have a wider choice of placements. Box 1102 Phoenix, AZ 85001 602-596-4996 missioncorps@maggiesplace.org w maggiesplace.org F facebook.com/Maggiesplace.org GOAL OF PROGRAM: Maggie's Place provides houses of hospitality and ongoing support to help pregnant and parenting women in need reach their goals, and welcomes them into a community filled with love and dignity. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Full-time volunteers at Maggie's Place, called MissionCorps Members, serve homeless pregnant women, new mothers, and newborns in need by living in community with them in homes of hospitality. Each site houses 3-4 MissionCorps and 6-7 mothers with their babies. MissionCorps are responsible for administrative duties, informal mentoring and support to each mother, and building a safe and welcoming community in their homes. AREA OF SERVICE: Greater Phoenix, AZ Metropolitan Area or Cleveland, OH. LENGTH OF SERVICE: Year-long commitments, renewable upon invitation. Summer commitments (8-12 weeks). Spring Break groups welcome. REQUIREMENTS: Year-long commitments: Age 21+ with college degree or equivalent life experience. Willing to abide by our Core Values and live in a Catholic community committed to following Church teaching. Flexible, calm in crises, respect life from conception to natural death. Must also have a valid driver's license. Summer commitments: Age 20+ with high school diploma. Other requirements same as above. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: MissionCorps Members and SummerCorps share bedrooms (two to four people per room) and live in community with each other, pregnant women, new mothers, and newborns. SIZE OF PROGRAM: 5 homes with 4-6 MissionCorps Members or SummerCorps at each home. TRAINING: Year-long commitments: 1-2 week introductory training followed by on-site training, supervisory meetings, weekly spiritual formations or professional development, and various other opportunities for professional growth. AFFILIATIONS: Creighton University Society of Jesus (Jesuits) GOAL OF PROGRAM: Magis Catholic Teacher Corps is a service- based graduate program centered on teaching, graduate coursework, community living, and Ignatian spirituality. With the hope of developing effective leaders and teachers in the Ignatian tradition for Midwest Catholic schools, Magis recruits college graduates who view education as their vocation and their ministry. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: Catholic schools across the Midwest (PK-12 grades, most subjects). Schools located in urban, surburban and rural settings, as well as on American Indian reservations. AREA OF SERVICE: Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Arizona LENGTH OF SERVICE: Two Years REQUIREMENTS: Members must have a Bachelor's degree and be accepted into the Graduate School and to Magis Catholic Teacher Corps. Must be willing to live in faith-based community in which members are open to sharing teaching experiences with one another. Must also enjoy working with youth and view teaching as a vocation and ministry in life.
