Living arrangements vary by chapter location, but typical examples include university campuses, community houses, and apartment complexes. SIZE OF PROGRAM: Long-term: Approximately 40 young adults serve one-year terms between the North Texas and Tennessee chapters of Project Transformation. Short-term: Approximately 400 young adults serve across all Project Transformation chapters. Each chapter serves between two and 11 sites, with teams of 8-12 young adults per site. TRAINING: One week of pre-service program training is provided, as well as on-site orientation. Project Transformation provides training in the following areas: Curriculum implementation, First Aid/CPR. conflict resolution, anti-racism, diversity, team building, classroom management, and vocational discernment. LENGTH OF SERVICE: A two-year program, encompassing two summers and two academic years. REQUIREMENTS: Recent Arts and Sciences graduates with a major in a discipline (approximately 30 credits) that corresponds with a high school subject area (e.g., English, history, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, foreign language, or theology), or Dducation graduates with certification as elementary, middle or high school teachers. We are looking for creative, energetic, and generous young men and women who wish to serve as Catholic educators to contribute to the renewal and enrichment of Catholic schools. Additionally, applicants should be single and willingly commit to live in and actively contribute to the formation of intentional, faith-based, Christian communities with their PACT colleagues. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: PACT teachers receive a Master's degree in Education from Providence College at no cost to them. Additionally, PACT teachers receive an annual stipend of $15,000 for each of the two years. If PACT teachers are unable to stay on their family's health insurance, the program is able to provide health insurance. Room and board for the two summers on campus is also provided. A note that PACT teachers are responsible to pay a low-cost rent of $300 per month for their program provided housing. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: PACT teachers live in apartment or housing rentals with three to seven people living in faith-based communities. Apartment-type dorms are provided during the two summer sessions on the Providence College campus. SIZE OF PROGRAM: The PACT program current has 41 teachers participating. TRAINING: A Providence College Master of Education degree; eligibility for initial certification as a secondary teacher or, if already certified, eligibility for certification in literacy or school administration; and two years of full-time teaching experience, complete with coaching and support provided both by the school and the PACT program. AFFILIATIONS: Established at Providence College in 2001, the PACT Program is a unique teacher education program that invites recent graduates to contribute two years of service as teachers in Catholic schools in New England. PACT is an affiliate program with the University of Notre Dame and several other U.S. Catholic colleges and universities as a member of the University Consortium for Catholic Education (UCCE). GOAL OF PROGRAM: The Providence Alliance for Catholic Teachers— PACT program is a unique teacher education program that invites recent graduates to contribute two years of service as teachers in Catholic schools in New England. PACT offers an integrated program of study, working toward a Providence College Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree, and two years of supervised field experience which introduces students to the profession of education and enables them to develop as highly competent educators. PACT teachers live in intentional, faith-based, and Christian communities and value growth in their own faith and spirituality as Catholic educators. PACT is a member of the University Consortium for Catholic Education (UCCE). TYPE OF PLACEMENT: PACT teachers are placed in partner Catholic schools. We currently partner with elementary and/or secondary schools in MA and RI in the (arch)dioceses of Boston, Fall River, Providence, and Worcester. PACT teachers commit to teach as full-time faculty for two years at their placement Catholic school while working towards their M.Ed. at Providence College. A two-year commitment to serve and to teach as full-time faculty members at understaffed Catholic inner-city diocesan schools. PACT teachers live in intentional, faith-based communities with 3-9 fellow PACT teachers and share with each other the many challenges and rewards of their experiences as beginning teachers. AREA OF SERVICE: We currently partner with elementary and/or secondary schools in MA and RI in the (arch)dioceses of Boston, Fall River, Providence, and Worcester. The program is exploring the opportunities to expand further across New England.
