8 OSCAR ARZU enters his fourth and final season with the USD football program, and his third year as the starting tailback ... last season he earned 1st Team All-Pioneer Football League honors after rushing for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns in ten starts ... was selected First Team All-America for NCAA I-AA Nonscholarship programs by Don Hansen's Football Gazette ... busted loose for three games of 200+ yards -- tallied 213 yards and 4 touchdowns on 18 carries against Whittier College; totaled 202 yards and 3 scores on 25 carries against Cal Lutheran; and netted 212 yards and 2 trips to the endzone on 19 carries against Butler ... out of his 9 rushing scores in the three 200+ games, five touchdowns were on runs of49 or more yards -- 65 & 63 yard scores against Whittier; 57 & 49 yard TD runs against Cal Lutheran; and a season-best 85 yard TD sprint against Butler ... twice he earned PFL Offensive Player of the Week honors (Sept. 12 & 19) ... his 66 points was a team-best, and his 4 rushing touchdowns and 24 points scored against Whittier tied school records ... heading into his final season, Oscarneeds

MIKE STADLER returns for his final year of eligibility after suffering a season-ending knee injury in USD's 1999 opener at Azusa Pacific .. . despite being lost for the season, he was named to the PFL All -Academic Team for the third straight year, and was selected a Burger King Scholar-Athlete with $10,000 awarded to USD's general scholarship fund ... with his entire senior campaign ahead of him, he already owns USD career passing records for attempts (577), completions (311 ), touchdowns (47) and passing yards (4,324) ... over two years ( 1997-98) he threw for 4,318 yards and 47 TDs ... he has twice been named First Team All -Pioneer Football League ... in 1998 he led the PFL in total offense (212. 7 ypg) while completing 15 8-of-311 for 2,031 yards and 17 TDs .. .in '98 season finale against Dayton, Stadler set season-highs for attempts (44) and completions (23), finishing with 294 yards passing and 2 TDs ... in 1997 (team went 8-3 ; 4-1 PFL) he tossed a school-best 30 touchdowns, breaking the old mark of2 l (1973) whi le being named USD ' s Offensive Player of the Year ... he blistered PFL opponents
in 1997 for 1,303 yards and 20 TDs over a 5-game span (averaging 260 yards and 4 TDs per league contest, and connecting on 74.6 percent of his passes) ... he turned in 5 TD performances against Evansville,
Valparaiso and Drake ... he was named the PFL Offensive Player of the Week after his performances against Evansvi lle (20-of-3 l for 283 yards) and Valparaiso (20-of-28 for 357 yards) .. . in the 39-30 come-from-behind victory over Drake, he threw four of his touchdowns in the final two periods, all completed to Dylan Ching ... his biggest nonconference outing came at Cal Lutheran where he finished l 7-of-36 for 309 yards and 2 scores (at halftime he was 9-of-16 for 226 yards and 2 TDs) ... in the season finale against Wagner he completed l l -of-18 for 162 yards and 2 TDs ... in 1996 Stadler was the Toreros third-string QB and finished the year with just one completion on four attempts ... prior to USD he spent four years playing professional baseball as a catcher (two years in the San Diego Padres organization and two years with the Cleveland Indians) ... he was drafted by the Padres in the 34th round of the 1992 June draft .. . Mike prepped locally at El Cajon Valley High where he was 1st Team All-Grossmont in football , basketball and baseball ... he spent two summers working at the UC San Diego Hospital in the Radiology Department.
