13 Fred Valdovinos returns for his final year with the Toreros football program ... he returns to the defense where he will again compete for playing time at defensive back ... last season he totaled 4 tackles in a reserve role ... he had two stops against Butler ( I unassisted), and I tackle each versus Drake and Wagner ... prior to USD, Fred prepped at Carlsbad High School where he lettered in three sports -- football , wrestling, and track & field ... also recruited by Saint Mary's College, he chose USD for its location and strong education ... Major: Business; Minor: Latino Studies.

Alika Vasper returns for his senior year ... he returns to the defense where he is projected to start again at the invert position ... last season he finished with 26 tackles ( 13 unassisted), with a season-best 8 tackles against Wagner ... in three different games he was credited with 3 solo tackles (Whittier, Valparaiso and Wagner) , and also

finished with 7 stops in opener at Azusa Pacific ... he started one game in 1997 before sustaining a neck injury and being lost for the rest of the year; he also sat out the 1998 season ... from Makakilo, Hawaii, he prepped at Kamehameha Schools and was a three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track ... his senior season he helped lead the team to a 6-4 record and No. 5 state ranking while earning First Team All-Interscholastic League of Honolulu honors ... he was selected to the Senior All-Star game as a linebacker ...
