D. Pedestrian Walkways through Large Vehicle Parking Areas

All vehicle off-street parking facilities containing more than 50 parking spaces shall provide a clearly identified pedestrian route between parking areas and the primary pedestrian entrance(s) to the building(s) served by the parking areas, or to a pedestrian walkway providing direct access to the primary building entrance(s). A vehicle parking lot containing more than 50 parking spaces shall provide a planting island between at least every three parking bays. The planting island shall comply with Section 5.12.4.D.3, Planting Islands Between Parking Bays. (See Figure 5.10.6.D: Planting islands through parking lots.) Where a vehicle parking lot containing more than 50 parking spaces has parking bays running parallel to

the front of the building(s) served by the parking, a pedestrian walkway shall be provided connecting landscaped islands along or at the ends of the parking bays as necessary to provide walkways through the parking lot at intervals of 200 feet or less. (See Section 5.12.4.D.2.a.) Crosswalks meeting the standards in the Engineering Design and Construction Manual shall be provided where pedestrian walkways through large parking lots cross a drive aisle within the parking bays or between them and the building(s) served by the parking. Walkways providing pedestrian access between parking areas and associated buildings may be extended to provide the connections to abutting street sidewalks or to adjoining development required by Section 5.8.8.A.1, General Pedestrian Access, and Section 5.8.8.B, Pedestrian Connectivity.
