LEADING THE WAY

elite traveler SUMMER 2020 9

Welcome The world has completely changed since our last issue was published. We are used to flying around the world at the drop of a hat, whether for important meetings or for fabulous getaways. We explored remote destinations seeking out authentic travel experiences that connected us to local cultures, and the world seemed to have grown smaller. But with Covid-19, all of that mind-expanding travel has stopped, and there is no clear path forward without a vaccine. What do we do in the midst of such turmoil and uncertainty? We dream. Dream big. Dream of exploring far-flung locales, witnessing nature’s majesty in person and seeing the world’s most iconic sights. We want to inspire you so that when we are able to take to the skies again, you’ll have no shortage of incredible places to visit. And until that day comes, we are here to entertain, educate and inform you. Our Discover and Style sections bring you the latest trends and new releases. For travel, we focus on the best food on the high seas, from famed chefs aboard both cruise ships and sensational superyachts. We also take you inside the spacious interiors of Gulfstream’s new G700. The Style section helps bring runway trends into your closet, as well as taking you to champion polo player Nacho Figueras’s Buenos Aires and to one of summer’s perennial favorite destinations, Mykonos. Read exclusive interviews with golf legend Greg Norman and Zenith CEO Julien Tornare in our Influence section, where Norman ruminates on his storied career and Tornare shares his plans to reinvigorate a storied watch brand. Dennis Pinto, managing director of Micato, shares the company’s philanthropic efforts, and we take a look at how luxury brands and the travel industry are responding to Covid-19. Our feature section has always been called Inspire, and it feels even more appropriate in this issue. Our main story showcases some of the greatest destinations on the planet, from seeing incredible wildlife to taking a deep dive into local cultures and enjoying nature’s beauty. Back at home, our cars are our private sanctuaries and will become even more important to us in the near future. We bring you the best of recent releases, so you can travel in safety and in style. Finally, our Explore section invites you to explore the world from the comfort of your home as you fill your 2021 calendar with epic trips. Whether that’s escaping to the ocean in Newport, Rhode Island or on the Amalfi Coast, attending an amazing food festival or seeing the Great Barrier Reef is up to you. Where are you dreaming of going? Drop us a line at editorial@elitetraveler.com

Object of Desire by Kristen Shirley A LASTING LEGACY

How did a 27-year-old widow build one of the world’s biggest champagne houses? Through the power of the pen. Madame Clicquot was an enigmatic and brilliant woman who sent letters around the world enchanting clients, instructing employees and extolling the virtues of her incredible champagne in her quest to create the ultimate champagne house. Now, Veuve Clicquot honors her legacy and her trove of archived correspondence with an enormous crystal inkwell that transforms into the most glamorous champagne bucket when opened. Veuve Clicquot worked with Baccarat to create the incredible piece, which is one of the largest objects ever made from a single block of crystal. It took two years to develop, and each of the 15 inkwells required over 1,000 hours of work by a score of master craftspeople. The base holds six fantastic vintages — 1989, 2004 and 2008, both Brut and Brut Rosé — of La Grande Dame champagne, as well as four Baccarat crystal champagne glasses and a leather serving tray. Everyone lucky enough to acquire the inkwell receives a private invitation to Champagne, France to visit the château and take a deep dive into the history of Veuve Clicquot and its famous namesake. $55,000, privateclient@moethennessy.com, veuveclicquot.com

This electric hypercar boasts a range of 400 miles, and it has striking good looks and unexpected features

by Alexandra Cheney Motoring

While the garden-variety supercar thrills, with its smattering of performance enhancements and bellicose design cues, hypercars compel thanks to unrivaled horsepower, moveable aerodynamics and unerring low-volume production. Far from a conventional sports car or even an extraordinary supercar, hypercars tinker with the extreme

Warp speed Rimac C_Two

As the race for electrification accelerates, an unlikely prodigy mans the helm: 32-year-old Mate Rimac. His knowledge of electric-vehicle hyperpower and battery technology has already been tapped by Aston Martin, Pininfarina, Koenigsegg, Renault, Hyundai and Porsche (the latter two maintain an ownership stake in his Croatia-based company). Rimac not only produced the electric Jaguar E-Type that Prince Harry and Meghan drove during the royal wedding celebrations, but he shares his hypercar platform, drivetrain and factory with Pininfarina’s Battista, which some may call a direct competitor. Impressive, considering that, prior to Rimac, Croatia did not manufacture any automobiles or their components. Built from the ground up, the Rimac C_Two (its pre-production name) features 1,914 hp derived from four electric motors, one per wheel. Because each motor functions both independently and as a single hive mind, driver preferences reach new heights. It’s possible to distribute the 2,300 Nm of torque to the front and rear powertrain as much as one likes — the car functions as all-wheel drive but it can be easily switched to front- or rear-wheel drive, a previously incomprehensible feat.

Each of the 150 vehicles produced includes a driving coach, a system that overlays certain racetracks to provide instantaneous updates on racing lines and braking points, should an owner want to maximize track time. Consider it a near-gaming experience planted firmly in the real world. A racecar heart with a grand-touring soul, Rimac claims it has a 400-mile range, enough to motor from Paris to Geneva. Eschewing an aggressive stance for a softer posture, the C_Two may bark, but it doesn’t bite. Agile undulations rather than hasty silhouettes guide the eye from nose to tail. The salient rear wing serves as the hypercar’s sole uninterrupted line, a heady design flourish that doubles as a full air-brake, stabilizing the car under heavy stopping. Inside the cockpit, switches and screens are employed in equal measure, but data is prized above all: Downloadable telemetry from every aspect of the car’s performance is always available. Despite Rimac’s impressive suite of designs, surprisingly none of his technology is patented. It is available for pre-order now, with deliveries expected by the end of the year. From $2.5m, rimac-automobili.com

Koenigsegg (pronounced cone-ing-seg ) classifies its automobiles not as hypercars but rather megacars. Technically, when a vehicle pushes over 1,300 hp, it’s the equivalent to one megawatt of power. Although it might sound pedantic, the megacar proof lies in the single-gear, 1,500 hp plug-in hybrid Regera. It currently holds the production-car record for the fastest 0 to 248 mph back to 0 mph in the world. The key to its acceleration lies in the twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that works with three electric motors: one for each rear wheel plus an auxiliary motor. Unlike vehicles with gearboxes, it relies upon a direct drive transmission. It’s like starting a car in sixth or seventh gear, but without the lag time. One gear wonder Koenigsegg Regera

Delights abound. The size of an infant’s hand, the car key has six functions and a dedicated magnetic slot close to the wheel. It may seem peculiar to mention, but the mere existence of two cup holders (versus the typical one in hypercars) is refreshing. The removable roof slides fit perfectly into the front trunk. A full axle lift raises both front and rear, allowing the healthy amount of carbon fiber underpinnings to remain intact. The duo of fishtail exhausts cull inspiration from the coaches of the 1920s. Koenigsegg prides itself on fabricating the majority of its components in-house, meaning everything, down to the Aircore rims with optional gold lining, can be customized. From $2.21m, koenigsegg.com

Lithe wire Pagani Huayra Roadster BC When Pagani Automobili redesigned its Huayra (pronounced wire-ra ) Roadster, the Italian hypercar house fixated on a pair of driving forces: added performance and decreased weight. Coupes consistently weigh less than roadsters, due mainly to supplementary stabilization and safety. Evolving from Huayra Coupe to Huayra Roadster, the brand shed 154 lbs. The transition from Roadster to Roadster BC, meanwhile, sees Pagani shaving another 66 lbs off. Sitting at 2,756 lbs, the Huayra Roadster BC weighs 300 lbs less than a Toyota Prius, courtesy of a smattering of new materials. Carbo- Triax, for example, is a composite technology based on carbon fiber and carbon-titanium that increases both torsional and flexional rigidity. Considered to be one of the first to implement the extensive use of carbon fiber two decades ago, Pagani’s

Huayra Roadster BC employs a new Titanium six-exhaust pipe system: The two extra direct outlets assist with generating further downforce. Already pre-sold, only 40 Huayra Roadster BC’s will be built, a departure from the company’s typical 100-unit allotment. From $3.38m, pagani.com

hp. A rear-wheel-drive transmission paired with the seven-speed Xtrac sequential gearbox and a lightweight single (versus dual) clutch further reinforces the impressive power-to- weight ratio. Pagani’s signature quad exhaust feature is rear and center, although the

paterfamilias, Horacio Pagani, continues to artfully weave the hyper-lightweight fabric through his vehicles. It comes as no surprise that the Huayra Roadster BC is practically painted in carbon fiber. Underneath the hood, a new 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 developed for Pagani by Mercedes-AMG boasts 802

Chef Thomas Keller’s Meyer Lemon Meringue Tart at The Grill by Thomas Keller aboard Seabourn ships

Gone are the days of generic buffets and unimaginative cuisine; today, luxury cruise lines are turning to Michelin-starred restaurants’ chefs to create spectacular onboard restaurants and culinary programs for discerning foodies. Can’t seem to snag an elusive reservation at one of your bucket-list Michelin-starred restaurants? Luckily, the world’s best chefs are expanding their empires to the high seas; just ask chef Daniel Boulud of two-Michelin- starred restaurant Daniel in New York, who recently partnered with Celebrity Cruises. His new partnership includes introducing dishes exclusively for Luminae (the fine-dining restaurant on select Celebrity ships available exclusively to suite-class guests), and Chef’s Table by Daniel Boulud, a five-course dinner with wine pairings hosted in a private dining room. In addition to offering exclusive dining experiences, cruise lines are taking advantage of their unique itineraries by organizing offshore excursions to visit the best local restaurants; some even host cooking classes and demonstrations that highlight region-specific dishes. “More and more travelers are booking trips and cruises based on culinary aspects,” Toni Neumeister, senior vice president of hotel operations at Crystal Cruises, tells Elite Traveler . that the cruise line enlisted chef Keller for his culinary talent and sophisticated cuisine, calling it a “perfect match” for Seabourn’s high-end clientele. Luxury cruise lines had already mastered sumptuous suites, impressive entertainment, unique offshore excursions and impeccable service. Now, elevated dining completes the luxury cruising experience. celebritycruises.com, crystalcruises.com, seabourn.com

Cruises has been a leader in culinary initiatives since it brought on famed Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa, known for Japanase-Peruvian cuisine, in 2003, and the cruise line has subsequently opened up chef Matsuhisa-helmed restaurant, Umi Uma & Sushi Bar, on board three ships. This October, he will join a 16-day voyage called Indonesian Immersive & The Great Barrier Reef on Crystal Endeavor to lead omakase dinners, cooking demos and sake tastings.

Some ships are giving chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants the opportunity to create new concepts from the ground up. Chef Thomas Keller, for instance, partnered with Seabourn Cruises in 2015 and has opened The Grill by Thomas Keller on all five ships in Seabourn’s fleet. The Grill serves distinctive dishes and has ever-changing seasonal menus. Daniel Putzhammer, director of food and beverage operations at Seabourn exclusively tells Elite Traveler

It goes without saying that a superyacht charter is one of the most luxurious experiences in the world. For gourmands, yachts known for gastronomic excellence are sure to delight, and for wine connoisseurs, select yachts will often have their own private cellars. Many yachts have chefs with backgrounds in Michelin-starred establishments, and every charter superyacht will craft a fully bespoke menu for guests. The 239-ft Titania is one charter choice that will impress thanks to her experienced private chef and multiple on-board dining spaces, including six dining tables, to choose from. Expect food and beverages at their absolute finest from Titania ’s head chef Nick Clark, who has worked in many of Europe’s leading restaurants and has a love for international cuisine. For wellness fans, chef Clark has a particular focus on nutrition and using organic produce whenever possible. We’ve all been there: You have an important event and want to wear your favorite suit or outfit, but it needs to be dry cleaned and it is too late for that. Samsung has a solution: the AirDresser. The innovative product from the tech giant was unveiled at CES, the Consumer Technology Association’s consumer electronics show, earlier this year to great fanfare. It uses powerful air and steam to remove dust and germs, meaning your clothes are refreshed, clean and ready to wear. Add your clothing to the unit and it releases powerful, fast-moving air to loosen and free dust. Then the JetSteam function sanitizes clothing to rid it of bacteria, viruses and allergens (this stage is particularly useful for linens and soft toys). There is a deodorizing filter that breaks down and removes odor-causing particles, and the self-cleaning function dehumidifies, sanitizes and deodorizes the interior of the unit without using harsh detergents. Finally, it dries clothes at a low, gentle temperature, minimizing heat damage and shrinkage. It also has a setting that can smooth wrinkles without ironing by using a combination of steam and air to relax the clothes. The dehumidifying function even helps keeps the rest of your clothes at their best (even though they are not inside the unit) by drawing out the moisture in the room. The AirDresser is sleek and discreet, and can easily blend into most closets. It runs quietly enough that you can switch it on overnight without WARDROBE REFRESH

The AirDresser can refresh multiple outfits at a time, and has a separate space for accessories and small items

and its latest aircraft is here to outshine them all. The new G700, which was first introduced in October 2019, officially has the longest, widest and tallest cabin in the industry (at nearly 57 ft, over eight ft wide and more than six ft tall) — the record was previously held by the Bombardier Global 7500. The G700 is the most spacious business jet in the industry, and after its first flight earlier this year, it was confirmed to have the longest range at the fastest speeds. The G700’s two Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines power the aircraft to speeds of up to Mach 0.925, and all-new winglets help reduce drag while in the air. But it’s not just about how fast your trip is; you need to get there in style, and Gulfstream isn’t one to skip the creature comforts. The G700 aircraft has 20 panoramic oval windows and up to five living spaces. Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, there is ample space to entertain: An ultra-galley in front has 10 ft of counter space, plus a (very) spacious refrigerator, conventional oven, ample storage for tableware and a three-seat divan. In back, a dining table spans the width of the cabin for in-flight dining for up to six people, and the dining table even has hidden built-in wireless charging to easily charge your smartphones. There’s also an optional entertainment area, which can include a 40-inch TV opposite another three-seat divan. Other details that enhance the flying experience include speakerless surround sound designed in collaboration with Bongiovi and ultra-high-definition circadian lighting (goodbye, jet lag!) that can actually emulate sunrise and sunset. Anne Roger, CellArt’s art curator, says: “The artists we select have a strong relationship and interest in cultural heritage and noble materials, as well as the living product —which is wine. They are often artists who manipulate mediums such as rare wood, paper, stone and steel. My main goal is that the art and wine pieces that we develop together reflect their own artistic vocabulary and voice.” These exceptional pieces are designed for homes, jets and yachts, as well as for special projects at prestigious institutions like Acker Merrall & Condit, the famed New York wine auction house. cellart.com WINE ARTISTS

La Cava at Patrón Hacienda hosts invite-only tastings in a private room surrounded by barrels

Wine & Spirits by Emma Reynolds Sipping tequila It wasn’t long ago that tequila was considered a low-shelf drink, relegated to questionably green margaritas or grimace-inducing shots. These days, however, unique, handcrafted bottles of smooth- tasting tequila line the top shelves of most bars, and for good reason. Tequila is a highly sophisticated spirit that has an incredibly complex flavor profile. Just like whisky connoisseurs, tequila lovers often drink it neat instead of in a cocktail (though we won’t judge if you prefer tequila with water and lime, or in a delicious Paloma). Like champagne, tequila has a protected designation of origin status, meaning that if it isn’t made in the region of Tequila, Mexico, it can’t be called tequila. Additionally, tequila must be made using at least 51% blue agave, though the best tequilas use 100%. “Agaves take eight years to mature, which is totally different than any other plants we consume,” Ivy Mix, a multi-award-winning bartender from New York City (who is credited with driving the US’s mezcal craze), tells Elite Traveler . “If they are harvested, roasted and distilled in the best ways, you can really taste the terroir of the agave.” Similar to wine, the taste of the agaves are entirely dependent on the altitude in which they’re grown. “Flavor varies from the highlands, around 6,200 ft, to the so-called lowlands, which is a valley, around 4,000 ft. The agaves range in flavors when grown in these different regions from lighter, citrus and floral when high up, to brighter, bolder and spicier down low,” she says. Most tequila is certified organic and grown using sustainable practices. Now, that’s something we can salud to. Some of our favorite tequilas include Clase Azul, Casa Dragones, Patrón, Casa Noble and Volcán de mi Tierra.

The space boasts high, arched brick ceilings, stone pillars, a sleek bar with a display of Patrón’s most unique expressions and an elegant wooden table for tastings. Marvel at the dozens of barrels lining the walls of the intimate space while you sip on everything from Patrón Silver to Gran Patrón Burdeos. patrontequila.com

2. CASA DRAGONES SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, MEXICO Luxury tequila Casa Dragones’ six-seat tasting room in the heart of the charming colonial town, San Miguel de Allende, was created by renowned design firm Meyer Davis. The rustic-modern design (with plenty of gold accents and ambient lighting) perfectly juxtaposes the exterior building, which is one of the oldest in Mexico. Inside, Mexican flair reigns supreme, the highlight being local designer Gloria Cortino’s 4,000 handcrafted tiles made using Mexican obsidian found in Casa Dragones’ agave fields. casadragones.com

Tourbillons are beautiful and hypnotic. They slowly spin 360 degrees, and observing the beating heart of the watch movement is mesmerizing. These ladies’ watches feature tourbillons alongside lacquer, diamonds, fabulous gems and unique movement architecture that make them wearable pieces of art Tourbillons

PARMIGIANI FLEURIER TONDA 1950 DOUBLE RAINBOW FLYING TOURBILLON Parmigiani Fleurier’s manufactures do it all, frommaking the tiniest screws to the most complicated movements, and it brings all of its expertise together in this incredible timepiece. It’s also known for impeccable gem-setting, on display here with 40 baguette-cut gems in a rainbow encircling the bezel as well the moon- shaped aventurine dial — and the rest of the dial is set with 572 diamonds. The watch shows hours and minutes on skeleton hands to let the beauty of the dial shine through. While the gem- setting is spectacular, it’s not the only reason to love this watch. At 7 o’clock, there’s a hypnotizing flying tourbillon. It comes with a red alligator strap or on a rose gold bracelet for a jewelry look. The self-winding movement has a 48-hour power reserve. $178,000 in 18K rose gold. Cellini inNew York, +1 212 888 0505, parmigiani.com

GIRARD-PERREGAUX TOURBILLONWITH THREE GOLD BRIDGES LADY Girard-Perregaux is famous for its three bridges motif and for its high complications, which frequently appear in ladies’ timepieces; its first ladies’ tourbillon was released in 1997. In this beautiful 38mmwatch, the three golden bridges sit atop a shimmering, delicate mother-of-pearl dial, which is hand- engraved and hand-painted. Diamonds are set on part of the case and on the lugs, adding shine. The tourbillon appears at 6 o’clock, and it has a small hand to indicate seconds. It has a 50-hour power reserve driven by a self-winding movement. The level of finishing is worth noting: It takes a skilled artisan one week to polish just the bridges, and each part of the movement is created and polished by hand. $149,000 in 18K pink gold. JACOB & CO ASTRONOMIA FLEURS DE JARDIN The Astronomia watch has entranced and enthralled the watch community since its release in 2013, appearing in variations with celestial bodies and intricately carved animals. Now, Jacob & Co brings a feminine touch to the famous movement, which makes a full rotation above the mother-of-pearl dial every 10 minutes using a patented system to ensure that the 12 and 6 o’clock positions on the subdial are always at the correct position, regardless of where the subdial is. Three arms branch out from the center and are decorated with beautiful gem-set flowers, and more flowers are dotted throughout the movement, while the flying tourbillon is set beneath a delicate golden butterfly. The complexity of the movement is absolutely breathtaking; expect to spend more time marveling at its beauty than you do checking the time. $360,000 in 18K rose gold. MB&F LEGACY MACHINE FLYINGT

For its first ladies’ watch, MB&F knew it had to create something special, and it certainly delivered. The Legacy Machine FlyingT has a truly unique movement architecture, with the vertically stacked movement towering from the center of the dial, topped by a flying tourbillon. The height of the movement requires a domed sapphire crystal, which is very distinctive. The slightly curved dial is covered in rich black lacquer, and the white gold case is set with diamonds, creating a sharp effect that allows the movement to take center stage. Even telling the time isn’t obvious; there is a discreet, angled dial at 7 o’clock that is visible only to the wearer. There are several versions available, including a stunning dial with baguette-set diamonds and one with a beautiful blue guilloché dial in a platinum case. $115,000 in 18K white gold. STYLE MEN’S WATCHES

Cars and wristwatches practically grew up together. Both were born at the turn of the 20th century and, during the mid-20th century, many watch brands were inspired by the aerodynamics of automobile racing and world racing records that were being set on the famed Bonneville Salt Flats. Watchmakers sponsored racecar drivers and races around the world, and designed sports watches with exciting auto inspirations. Today, this alliance continues, with some brands taking those partnerships a step further by joining forces with automobile makers, often borrowing aerodynamic design strategies and high-tech materials to bring car-inspired watches to new heights AUTO-INSPIRED TIMING

BREMONT JAGUAR D-TYPE British watch brand Bremont, which is close to opening a full-fledged, vertically integrated watch manufacture in Henley-on-Thames, naturally would only join forces with a British automotive brand: Jaguar. Now, after several collaborations since 2014, the brand has created the Jaguar D-Type to honor Jaguar Classic’s reinstated production of the D-Type race car of the 1950s. The mechanical chronograph celebrates the golden era of motorsports with a vintage motif. The watch features a blue dial with a bi-compax chronograph and brushed nickel subdials. Red accents and a tachymeter outer dial ring complete the robust look of the 43mm chronometer. A sapphire crystal caseback allows for viewing of the rotor, which is shaped like the Jaguar steering wheel. The crown, topped with the Jaguar logo in enamel, is etched with the original Dunlop tire tread motif. $7,295 in satin-finished stainless steel. Bremont in New York, +1 212 321 0012, bremont.com

BREITLING PREMIER BENTLEY MULLINER LIMITED EDITION For 17 years, Swiss watch brand Breitling has had a long and rich partnership with famed British marque Bentley. This year, the two take their focus to a new realm: the Bentley Mulliner. The Mulliner workshop has created tailor-made models for Bentley since 1959 and, this year, they pulled out all the stops with the Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Convertible — possibly the most luxurious GT to date —which features a Breitling clock in the dashboard. In honor of their collaboration, Breitling created a coordinated watch to mimic the dashboard clock. The 42mm timepiece with a silver dial and red and blue accents offers a central chronograph with the second hand in red and a tachymeter bezel. The COSC- certified chronometer is powered by the brand’s 346-part

CHOPARD MILLE MIGLIA GTS AZZURRO POWER CONTROL Inspired by the Mille Miglia classic car rally that takes place along 1,000 miles of the most scenic routes in Italy (Chopard is the official timekeeper of the race), the Mille Miglia GTS Azzurro Power Control watch features a host of auto- inspired details. The stunning blue dial recalls vintage racing cars, the bright-red accents and hands are the official Mille Miglia red, and the date indication is framed by a direction arrow. The 60-hour power-reserve indicator resembles a car’s fuel gauge, and the case sides are grooved with a distinctive pattern that emulates an engine’s pistons. The 43mm watch is powered by an in-house, self-winding movement that is a COSC-certified chronometer. It is finished with a leather strap with perforations that recall driving gloves and steering wheel covers. $9,990 in stainless steel and 18K rose gold. ROGER DUBUIS EXCALIBUR HURACÁN Passionate about performance and groundbreaking technology, Roger Dubuis is constantly breaking typical watch design rules and amping things up. For the past few years, the brand has partnered with Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Pirelli (the tire brand that equips Lamborghinis on the racetracks) to develop what it calls ‘raging mechanics.’ This bold 45mm Excalibur Huracán is powered by an in-house, 233-part, skeletonized self-winding movement. Its mainplate and bridges are shot-blasted with high-tech NAC coating. The oscillating weight is inspired by the rim of the supercar, and the upper portion of the movement features a strut bar that recalls those on the V10 engine of the Huracán car. Ultra- lightweight and scratch resistant, the watch is finished with an interchangeable rubber strap with Alcantara inlay. $47,000 in titanium black DLC. Roger Dubuis in New York, +1 212 651 3773, rogerdubuis.com ZENITH DEFY 21 LAND ROVER EDITION This year marks a big one for both Zenith watches and Land Rover as their partnership continues. Land Rover relaunches its most emblematic all-terrain vehicle in history, the Defender, with a significant redesign and, to celebrate, Zenith has released the stealth Defy 21 Land Rover Edition chronograph. Powered by the brand’s legendary high- frequency El Primero movement (that measures time to 1/100th of a second), the watch — like the Defender — boasts a revamped look with a gray dial, reddish-orange accents and, for the first time ever, a linear power-reserve indicator. The certified chronometer offers 50 hours of power reserve and a central chronograph second hand, as well as hour and minute totalizers. The rubber strap is designed to emulate the Defender’s tire tread motif. $13,600 in gray ceramic. Cellini in New York, +1 212 888 0505, zenith-watches.com

HUBLOT CLASSIC FUSION FERRARI GT It was nine years ago that Hublot joined forces with Ferrari to create unique, high-performance watches. Speeding to the front of the line is the Hublot Ferrari GT that draws inspiration from Gran Turismo grand touring cars. Equipped with a 354-part, in-house skeletonized Unico movement, the 45mm watch boasts a column-wheel mechanism visible from the dial side. The self-winding flyback chronograph caliber holds four patents. While Hublot developed the movement, it worked closely with Ferrari designers who developed and crafted the case in keeping with the GT. The famed Prancing Horse logo is seen at 12 o’clock, and bright Ferrari-red accents add pops of color to the black and silver high-tech look. The straps are black rubber with Schedoni leather, the same leather used in historical Maranello race-car seats. $27,300 in 3D carbon fiber. Hublot in New York, +1 646 582 9813, hublot.com JACOB & CO BUGATTI CHIRON TOURBILLON The third watch in a new partnership between Jacob & Co and Bugatti, this magnificent 3D piece feels like wearing an engine, not a watch. The manual-winding movement has an impressive 578 parts and offers a 16-cylinder engine inspired by the powerful Bugatti Chiron. Press a button and the cylinders and 16 pistons drive into action, with a rotation of the pistons and crankshaft emulating the real engine. Adding more drama: two turbochargers that spin while the engine is moving. The complex movement features a 30-degree inclined one-minute tourbillon, a 60-hour power-reserve indicator and an Incabloc shock-protection system. This system is highly important to the movement, as the entire caliber is suspended within the case with four components (one in each corner) that resemble the Chiron’s shocks. $280,000 in black titanium.
