The Miraculous Delta  BOTSWANA’S OKAVANGO SAFARI | 10 DAYS, OR 12 WITH OPTIONAL EXTENSION TO LIVINGSTONE AND VICTORIA FALLS · GROUP

A one-of-a-kind natural masterpiece, the Okavango Delta is the happy result of the 1,000-mile-long Okavango River’s failure to find an outlet to the sea. Instead, the river dissolves productively into the bone- dry Kalahari Desert, creating the world’s largest inland delta. It is home to a dizzying variety of flora, and

and a duo of lesser-known beasts—lechwe and topi. Seventy-one fish species zig and zag around the delta’s 150,000 islands, and 400 avian species dip in and out. Our Miraculous Delta journey explores the Oka- vango’s spectacular sceneries and wildlife during two particularly apt seasons. In the green season, we spend time at Linyanti Tented Camp in the Linyanti, a grandly gorgeous reserve in Botswana’s far north, with canoe trips and the chance to see swimming elephants. We also pay close attention to the Kalahari, which is in top form, bursting with new life, and we drive into the well-named Deception Valley and walk with a San shaman, learning about ancient tracking, hunting, and gathering ways. In the high season, after savoring a few days in the Linyanti, we also have special access to the alluringly rustic Pelo Camp in the Jao Concession, where we pole about by mokoro. Delving further into the delta, we revel in wild- life based from the inspiring Little Vumbura Camp. Our optional trip extension targets Victoria Falls,

one of the planet’s most thunderously great cataracts. (It’s one of the planet’s most thunderously great anythings , actually.) We fly to Livingstone, Zambia, and drive to cool, comfortable, tented Toka Leya Camp, a few minutes’ drive upriver from Mosi-oa-Tunya, “The Smoke That Roars.” That smoky mist often gives us the impression of flying over the falls, joining in our electrified imaginations the “angels in their flight” David Livingstone saw dancing airily “over sights as beautiful as this.” green season: nov. 6–15, 2019; mar. 12–21, 2019; apr. 22–may 1, 2020; nov. 2–11, 2020 high season: july 16–25, 2020 from $9225 HIGH-SEASON ITINERARY WITH EXTENSION Day 1  arrive in Johannesburg ✦  2  fly to Livingstone and Victoria Falls for optional trip extension ✦  3  Victoria Falls ✦  4  fly via Maun to Linyanti Camp ✦  5 & 6  Linyanti Concession ✦  7  fly to Pelo Camp ✦  8 & 9  Jao Concession ✦  10  fly deeper into the Okavango to Little Vumbura ✦  11  wildlife viewing  ✦  12  y to and depart Johannesburg.
