O ur new North-to-South-Island New Zealand adventure displays some of the most majestic land- scapes found in this famously cheery corner of the world and provides ample opportunity for families and friends of all ages and ambitions to enjoy its exhilarating outdoor offerings. Touching down in Auckland, we get our North Island bearings—and sail aboard an America’s Cup yacht—before driving to Rotorua. Our picturesque route to this geothermal wonderland and heart of Maori culture includes a stopover in Waitomo, where we explore a limestone cave illuminated by thousands of tiny glow- worms. The next few days feature helicoptering to New Zealand’s only active marine volcano, stepping into cinema history at the Hobbiton Movie Set, and learn- ing about kiwi conservation during a behind-the-scenes hatchery visit. We also have time for hiking, mountain biking, Zorbing, and zip-lining, as well as relaxing at our stellar lodgings. Then it’s wheels up to Christchurch on the South Island. The International Antarctic Center introduces us to the chill of the South Pole and to rescued little blue penguins, and we watch for dolphins in the harbor of French-influenced Akaroa.
