An advertisement issued by the Local Appointments Commission inviting applica– tions from Solicitors between the ages of 25 and 40 years for the appointment of the combined office of Clerk and Solicitor to the Athlone District Council, whole time, per– manent, and pensionable, at salary of £300 per annum, rising by £10 yearly to a maximum of £400 yearly, was considered by the Council, and the following resolution was passed: " The Council having considered the terms and conditions under which members of the Solicitors' profession are invited to make application to the Local Appoint– ments Commission for the appointment of Clerk and Solicitor to the Athlone Urban District Council, expresses its opinion that both the initial and maximum salaries offered for the combined offices are wholly unreasonable and inadequate. The Council requests the Minister for Local Govern– ment and Public Health to receive at an early date a deputation from the Council in reference to this matter."
