MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. 13th January. Twenty-three members present. Land Acts. The Council decided that a letter be written to the President of the High Court drawing attention to the inconvenience to Solicitors and their clients caused by reason of the unsuitability for the purpose of the room at 24 Upper Merrion Street, in which the sittings of the Appeal Tribunal are held. Registry of Deeds. A letter read from a member enclosing correspondence he has had with the Assistant Registrar of Deeds on the subject of the memorials transcript books kept pursuant to statute in the Registry of Deeds Office was referred to a Committee. Election of Seanad. The Council resolved to make application for registration in the Register of Nominating Bodies under the Seanad Electoral (Panel Members) Act, 1937. OBITUARY. MR. JAMES FLYNX, Solicitor, died on the 3rd January, 1938, at Bon Secour Hospital, Cork.

MR. FLYNN served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. P. T. Carroll, Bantry; was admitted in Michaelmas Sittings, 1894, and practised at Kenmare, and subsequently at Bantry, up to 1914, when he retired. MR. ARCHIBALD TUTHILL, Solicitor, died on the 16th January, 1938, at " Tamney," Glenageary, Co. Dublin. Mr. Tuthill served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. A. H. Middleton, Dublin ; was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1874, and practised at 26 Eustace Street, Dublin, up to 1930, when he retired. ESTATE DUTY ON POLICIES OF LIFE ASSURANCE. In the GAZETTE of November, 1937,. reference was made to a case of "In re Finance Act, 1894, and Deane " (reported " The Irish Reports " of 1936, page 556), and it was stated that the British Revenue Authorities had intimated to the parties concerned their acceptance in that case of the law as laid down in the judgment of the High Court of the Irish Free State.
