Dry & Wet Lubricants

Wire drawing lubricants from Germany Traxit International, Germany, pro- duces a wide range of wire drawing lubricants, for applications including low and high carbon wire, welding wire, and non-ferrous wire.

Alchemix offers PRIME-MAS PA-1, a modified polyethylene-based process- ing aid masterbatch in pellet form, for the elimination or reduction of melt fracture and die build-up during processing of polymers. It is also effective in increasing throughput and reducing power consumption. PRIME-MAS PA-1 is suitable for the processing of polyethylene, co-polymers of polyethylene and polypropylene. Alchemix also offers customised solutions in resolving processing issues commonly associated with

Halogen Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) cable compounds and high filled compounds. Other products available from Alchemix includes environmental- friendly anti-termite compounds, anti-rodent cable compounds, coupling agents or processing aids in powder or liquid form and silane-based crosslinking chemicals suitable for Monosil or Sioplas process.

New generation of lubricants for dry drawing Tecnovo Srl, Italy, has recognised market demands for multifunction products that have a low environmental impact, and has eliminated toxic and harmful products from its range. The technical requirements of the company’s new formulations were that the products should provide adequate lubrication of wire over a wider temperature range, greater temperature stability, strong adhesion of the lubricating film to the drawn wire, resistance to compression, strong polarity towards the drawn wire, and easy removal of the lubricating film from the surface of the wire. The company’s calcium-based soaps start to work on the wire at a lower temperature and with greater lubricating power than traditional calcium-based lubricant. The soaps continue to work evenly on the wire up to a temperature very close to the maximum permitted by a sodium based lubricant, and contain no potentially dangerous substances such as nitrites, borates, sulphides, amines, chloride derivatives, or aromatic compounds. They maintain the same characteristics as normal calcium soaps, and allow easy dispersion in water and acid solutions.

Sodium soaps com- monly used in wire drawing contain com- ponents that are not environmentally friendly: nitrites, chlorinated and sulphurised compounds, and soaps of heavy metals (barium, chrome, and lead). Tecnovo has developed a line of sodium soap products that it guarantees contain none of these substances.

The company, which is backed up by ISO 9001 quality assurance, has extensive research and development facilities, to help it to remain at the forefront of the latest technological advances. Traxit International aims to reduce lubricant consumption, create less dust and increase the efficiency of drawing machines, while extending die life and reducing environmental impact. Manufactured using a new production process which uses only inorganic, non-toxic and non-harmful salts to obtain perfect reticulation of the fibre of the soap, this new sodium soap maintains its characteristics at temperature ranges over 280°C.
