DLI 1st grade guide

1st Grade Math Scope & Sequence 2024-2025

example, 8+6 = 8+2+4 = 10+4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (for example, 13–4 = 13–3–1 = 10–1 = 9) ; using the relationship between addition and subtraction (for example, knowing that 8+4 = 12, one knows 12–8 = 4) ; and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (for example, adding 6+7 by creating the known equivalent 6+6 +1 = 12+1 = 13) . b. By the end of Grade 1, demonstrate fuency for addition and subtraction within 10.

End of Unit Competency

By the end of Topic 2 students will be able to tell you which strategy(s) can be used to add and subtract and create a mathematical model to show how the strategy works. Language Functions and Features: Describe data and/or steps to solve problems using: ● Mathematical terms ( number line, double fact, count back, missing part, model ) ● Visuals ( pictures, cubes, ten frames ) to support approach, solution, and/or extract information ● Connectors to order steps ( frst, next, then, fnally ) and indicate reasons ( because, so, that means, as a result )
